Terps Fall To Tar Heels, 5-0

CHAPEL HILL, NC – Maryland softball was defeated by North Carolina, 5-0, in its first game of the Carolina Classic at Anderson Softball Stadium on Saturday. Maryland is now 4-7 overall. 

North Carolina (10-3) scored two runs in the bottom of the first with an RBI single and sacrifice fly. It didn't reach the scoring column again until the sixth inning. In the sixth inning, the Tar Heels added three more runs. Maryland could not get on the board with its three hits in the contest. Sydney Lewis, Bailey Murphy and Sammi Woods all hit singles.  

Julia Shearer pitched five innings in the circle, striking out three batters and giving up just three runs on eight hits. Bri Godfrey pitched the final inning.

Breaking Down The Action
  • The Tar Heels led 2-0 entering the top of the second. They hit an RBI single and scored the other run on a sacrifice fly. 
  • Julia Shearer pitched a 1-2-3 fourth inning, but the Terps trailed 2-0. 
  • North Carolina plated three insurance runs in the sixth with two RBI singles. They led 5-0.
