Maryland Hosts Big Four Meet Saturday

COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Maryland gymnastics team hosts the Big Four Meet on Friday night at 6:00 p.m., welcoming Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, and Iowa. Fans can follow the action live on X (@TerpsGymnastics) and stream the meet on Big Ten Network.
 
SETTING THE STAGE
  • The GymTerps begin week three ranked No. 34 in the Road to Nationals ranking. Maryland also places themselves at No. 30 on floor and vault, looking to build upon their previous winning score of 195.750 at home against Iowa.
  • Sophomore Natalie Martin delivered a stunning 9.925 on vault, matching both her career high and last week's performance at Washington.
  • Senior Rhea LeBlanc matched her career high on vault with a 9.850 and set a season high on floor with an impressive 9.900.
  • Junior Maddie Komoroski matched her season high on beam with a 9.900 and set a season high on floor with a 9.875.
  • The Terrapins fell to Illinois (195.100-196.850) and Michigan (195.100-197.500) in last year's Big Five meet hosted by Penn State.
  • The Terps fell to Minnesota in a dual meet last January, 195.625-196.725.
  • Maryland last hosted a lineup of Big Ten schools at the B1G Five meet in 2021, welcoming Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio State, and Nebraska. 
  • Graduate Alexa Rothenbuescher made her debut on beam this year in Maryland's first away dual meet against Nebraska, earning a career-high 9.900.
  • Senior Sierra Kondo reached a career high of 9.950 on uneven bars at the Terrapins home opener against a ranked UCLA.
  • Kondo not only set a personal best but also tied the program's individual event record, cementing her place among Maryland's all-time greats.
  • Maryland broke its attendance record at their home opener, drawing an incredible 7,287 fans for the highly anticipated matchup against the previously ranked No. 11 UCLA.
  • The Terps were ranked No. 24 in the WCGA Preseason Coaches Poll and No. 22 in the College Gym News Preseason Poll. The Terps enter the 2025 season looking to reach the NCAA Regionals for the seventh consecutive year (seven including the 2020 season, when Regionals were not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

Checking out the schedule
  • Maryland will have to travel for three out of conference meets, starting with a dual at Temple on Wednesday, Mar. 5. The squad then travels to Connecticut for a tri meet against Yale with LIU on Sunday, Mar. 9. The Gym Terps remain close to home when they head to GW to compete in a tri meet along with Towson on Friday, Mar.14.
  • The Gym Terps finish out their regular season by hosting their final tri meet against Towson, GW, and Yale on Sunday, Mar.16. Post season competition begins with the Big Ten Championships on Friday, March 21 in Ann Arbor, MI. The NCAA Regional meets will take place between April 2 and 6, where Maryland hopes to improve upon their 196.350 score from 2024. The NCAA semis and finals will be held between April 17 and 19.
