COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland makes the trek back to North Carolina, as it heads to Winston-Salem to take on Princeton and #12 Wake Forest. Maryland will play two games against each opponent, opening the weekend on Friday against Princeton at noon. The Terrapins will then play two games on Saturday, first against Princeton at 11:30 a.m. before playing Wake Forest at 3:00 PM. The Terps will then finish the weekend on Sunday against Wake Forest at 1:00 p.m. This is the first meeting between the Terps and Princeton, with the two last facing back in 2017 in a 2-0 for Maryland. Maryland and Wake Forest have met 164 times in the series, with both teams last playing in 2023 during the NCAA Tournament.
The Terps returned home for its home opener on Tuesday, falling to visiting Delaware. Delaware jumped out to a lead early, up 11-3 by the sixth inning. The Terps attempted a rally, scoring seven in the seventh and eighth innings combined. The comeback effort would just come up short, with Delaware adding two insurance runs in the ninth in the victory.
Record Setting Performance
Maryland scored 35 runs on 27 hits on Saturday against Western Carolina. Both totals are school records for the Terps, who currently rank third in the nations in runs per game at 12.7.

- Calarco is tied for the most home runs in the country with six, three of which have been grand slams. Calarco is the nation's sole leader in RBI, with 21 through his first seven games.
- For his efforts during the weekend, Calarco was named the Golden Spikes National Player of the Week. He is the first Terp to receive the honor since Matt Shaw, who earned it for the week of May 9, 2022. Calarco was also named by D1Baseball as the top performing offensive player of the weekend.
Alex Calarco has been swinging a hot bat for the Terps to start the season. Through seven games, Calarco is batting .448 and leads the country with 21 RBI. Calarco also has six home runs so far, which is tied for the most in Division I.
Ain't It Grand
- The Terps got off to a great start with the bases loaded , hitting six grand slams in their first six games. College records aren't available to confirm if a team has ever hit six grand slams in a six-game span. For perspective, never in Major League Baseball history since 1901, has a team hit six grand slams in a six-game span, let alone in the first six games of a season. The 2020 San Diego Padres hit five grand slams in a six-game span within a season from Aug. 17-22, 2020.
- By comparison the 2023 Maryland team which finished the year with a national-best 11 grand slams, hit a grand slam in each of their first three games and four in their first six games.
- Alex Calarco leads the pack with three grand slams this season. He is followed by Chris Hacopian, who has hit two grand slams this year. Paul Jones II hit a grand slam during Maryland's 35-12 win on Saturday, which was also his first home run of his collegiate career.
Chris Hacopian hit his second grand slam of the year on Sunday Against Western Carolina. The grand slam was the six of the season for the Terps in their first six games.
Scouting the Opponents
- Princeton opened its season in South Florida as it faced Miami. The Tigers dropped all four of their games in Coral Gables against the Hurricanes. On offense, the Tigers are led by Jake Bold. Bold leads the team in every major offensive category including batting average (.250), home runs (one), and RBI (three). On the pitching side, Princeton has five pitchers that are all tied for the team lead with a 0.00 ERA. Jacob Faulkner leads the team with five appearances. Faulkner has not allowed a run across five innings, holding opponents to a .222 batting average with three strikeouts.
