WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Led by
Aden Hill's two home runs, Maryland baseball scored 10 runs on seven hits in the bottom of the second inning in its 17-1 win over Princeton at David F. Couch Ballpark on Friday afternoon. The Terps are 4-4 overall heading into its second matchup with the Tigers (0-5) tomorrow.
Hill accounted for half of the team's runs with a two-run homer and a three-run blast. The two home runs in one inning tied the NCAA record for most HRs by one player in an inning, shared by multiple players. However, the last time a Terp accomplished the feat was when Will Watson did it on May 12, 2018, at home against Rutgers.
Hill now has nine long balls in his career, including three this season as a Terp. The VCU transfer has three home runs in his last two games. It was also his first career multi-HR game. He finished his outing going 2-for-4 with a career high five RBIs and three runs.
Kyle McCoy made his third start on the mound this season and delivered a career performance. He pitched seven innings while matching his career-high with nine strikeouts. He surrendered just one run on four hits. He earned his sixth career win and his second of the season.
Hollis Porter also went yard in the second inning. His was a solo shot and the third of his career at the Division I level. Brayden Martin added a two-RBI double, and Eddie Hacopian and Chris Hacopian pitched in one RBI each with a double and a single, respectively. Porter went 2-for-4 with his fourth multi-hit game as a Terp.
Alex Calarco homered in the sixth inning. It was his nation-leading seventh home run of the season. He has 19 overall in his career, with 11 as a Terp. He also leads the nation with 22 RBIs. Calarco was recognized as the Golden Spikes National Player Of The Week on Monday.
Maryland tacked on six runs in the seventh and eighth.
Eddie Hacopian finished with three RBIs,
Parker Corbin recorded two and
Liam Willson and
Colin Gibbs added one tally each.
Cristofer Cespedes pitched the remaining two innings, striking out three and giving up no runs on one hit.
