COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The No. 4 Maryland Terrapins are set for a marquee matchup as they travel to Evanston, Illinois, to face No. 3 Northwestern on Saturday, March 22, at 2 p.m. at Ryan Fieldhouse on Big Ten Network. Maryland enters the contest with a 6-1 record, riding a six-game winning streak after opening Big Ten play with victories over Penn State (19-11) and No. 11 Michigan (14-12).

The Terps bounced back from a season-opening loss to then-No. 6 Syracuse (15-9) with a dominant stretch, securing wins over Georgetown, Saint Joseph's, Denver, No. 13 James Madison, Penn State, and Michigan.
- Junior Kori Edmondson is the catalyst for the Terrapins offense and leads the team with 24 points and 18 goals on the season. Grad student Chrissy Thomas leads the team with 13 assists which is eighth in the Big Ten. Defensively, the Terps are anchored by captains Kennedy Major and Neve O'Ferrall.Â
- Junior midfielder Kori Edmondson has been named Big Ten Midfielder of the Week for the third consecutive week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday. Freshman Kayla Gilmore also received conference recognition, earning Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors.
- This marks the fourth Big Ten Midfielder of the Week award in Edmondson's career. She played a key role in Maryland's 2-0 start to conference play, tallying eight points, six draw controls, two caused turnovers, and two ground balls. In the 14-12 win over No. 11 Michigan, she recorded two goals, an assist, and three draw controls. She followed up with a dominant performance at Penn State, contributing three goals, two assists, two caused turnovers, and three draw controls in a 19-11 victory.
- Gilmore made an immediate impact in her first two Big Ten games, totaling two points and 11 draw controls. She had a standout performance at Penn State, notching a goal and eight draw controls in Maryland's 19-11 win. She became the first Maryland freshman to earn the honor since Kori Edmondson on March 21, 2023.
Series history vs. Northwestern
- This marks the 32nd meeting between Maryland and Northwestern. The Terps have historically controlled the series, leading 18-13 over the past 40 years. The two teams first met in 1985, with Maryland earning a 17-5 victory.
- Chrissy Thomas and Kori Edmondson are the only current Terps who recorded a goal against Northwestern last season. In 2024, Thomas scored four goals but the Terps would fall to Northwestern 17-9 in College Park.
Scouting The wildcats
- Northwestern will host Maryland after starting the season 7-1. This season they have wins over No. 11 Notre Dame and No. 25 Colorado. Northwestern has the No. 1 scoring offense in the Big Ten and leads the conference in draw control percentage.
- Offensively, Madison Taylor leads the way for the Wildcats, leading the team in goals (45), assists (14), and points (59). Taylor is currently second in the country and first in the conference in goals this season.Â
- In goal, Delaney Sweitzer anchors the Wildcats defense. Currently this season she has a 8.26 GAA and a .487 save percentage. Sweitzer is second in the Big Ten in goals-against average.
Kayla Gilmore was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the first time this season.

- On February 14, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced the 2025 IWLCA Hall of Fame, which included Maryland head coach Cathy Reese.
- Reese has guided Maryland to five national championships (2010, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019), 11 Final Fours, and 20 regular-season and tournament championships across the ACC and Big Ten. She is recognized as a four-time IWLCA National Coach of the Year (2010, 2014, 2015, 2019) and a 12-time conference coach of the year.
