Jaxon Smith Finishes In Sixth Place, Terps Earn Top-25 Team Finish At 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships

PHILADELPHIA – Jaxon Smith, who earned All-American status Friday night to become Maryland's first All-American since Youssif Hemida did so in 2019, ended his NCAA Championships weekend with a sixth place finish, also the highest for a Terp since Hemida in 2019. Smith is just the 21st wrestler in program history to achieve All-America status.

On Friday night, Smith defeated No. 14 DJ Parker (Oklahoma) in the Round of 12 by a 4-2 score, thanks to a beautiful super duck at the end of the second period, clinching All-American status. Less than an hour later, Smith cruised past 12th-seeded Silas Allred of Nebraska 8-1 to lock up a top-six finish at NCAAs.

Smith is the first wrestler under head coach Alex Clemsen to achieve All-America status.

As a team, the Terps finished with 18.5 team points, good for a tie in 24th place in the team standings. The 18.5 points are the most for the program since 2014. It is also the first top-25 finish for the team at NCAAs since 2014.
