Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY – Madison Runyan and
Sam Bean combined for three homers in Maryland softball's 8-1 win over Purdue at Devon Park on Saturday. Maryland is now 14-14 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The Terps will wrap up their four-day stretch in Oklahoma City with a rematch against the Boilermakers (16-14, 1-5 Big Ten) tomorrow.
The first two home runs were part of a 6-0 scoring run through the first three innings, as each were two-run shots. Junior infielder Madison Runyan hit the first in the top of the second. It was the first of her career. Sam Bean hit the second in the third inning.
Bean closed the game with another two-run blast, her fifth home run of the season and 15th of her career. She finished the contest going 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBI and two runs. This was her first multi-HR game as a Terp.
Bri Godfrey was dominant in the circle for the Terps. Only two outs away from pitching a complete game shutout, Godfrey earned her ninth career win and fourth victory of the season. She struck out two batters and only allowed four hits.
Maryland's other two runs were scored by Sammi Woods and Bailey Murphy on an error in the second. Murphy went 3-for-3 with multiple hits.
Mazie MacFarlane (2-for-4) and Woods (2-for-3) also recorded multiple hits. Both hit doubles.
The Terps defense, anchored by Runyan and Bean, stifled one of the top base-stealers in the country, Purdue's Moriah Polar. Maryland caught Polar out on the base paths twice in the game. She had only been caught stealing twice all season.

Maryland's defense continued this momentum into the bottom of the second, as Woods and Sydney Lewis delivered an inning-ending double play.

- Runyan made a diving grab and toss to second for the final out of the fifth inning, preventing the Boilermakers from scoring with two runners on.
