Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY – Maryland softball was narrowly defeated by Purdue, 2-0, at Devon Park on Sunday afternoon. Maryland is now 14-15 overall and 3-4 in conference play. The Terps split their two games this weekend with the Boilermakers.
Despite being held scoreless, the Terps were able to consistently put runners on base and in scoring position. They put a runner on base in every inning except the sixth. However, they couldn't capitalize on the opportunities, leaving nine runners on base. The Terps also outhit the Boilermakers 7-5.
Purdue (17-14, 2-5 Big Ten) scored the only runs of the game in the second inning. It hit a two-run homer that Mazie MacFarlane nearly robbed in center field, but the ball was just out of reach of her glove.
Keira Bucher had a strong outing in the circle for Maryland. She pitched her second career complete game and allowed only two runs on five hits. Her six innings pitched matched her career high.
Five different batters (MacFarlane, Matti Benson, Sydney Lewis, Bailey Murphy, and Madison Runyan) finished with a hit for the Terps. Runyan went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. Benson finished 2-for-4 at the plate, also with a pair of singles.
