No. 6 Terps Host Oregon For Thursday Matchup

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland hosts Oregon for a Big Ten matchup on Thursday, with the Ducks arriving in College Park with a 5-5 record. The Terps and Ducks will face off at 5 p.m. on B1G+. This marks the first meeting between Maryland and Oregon. The Ducks are competing in their inaugural Big Ten season after moving from the Pac-12.
 
Where We've Been
  • The Terrapins are 6-2 this season and 2-1 in Big Ten play. This season Maryland has ranked wins over #13 JMU and #11 Michigan. Junior Kori Edmondson is the catalyst for the Terrapins offense and leads the team with 29 points and 22 goals. Grad student Chrissy Thomas leads the team with 13 assists. Defensively, the Terps are anchored by captains Kennedy Major and Neve O'Ferrall
  • Last week, junior midfielder Kori Edmondson was named the Big Ten Midfielder of the Week for the third consecutive week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday. Freshman Kayla Gilmore also received conference recognition, earning Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors.
  • This marked the fourth time in Edmondson's career that she was named the Big Ten Midfielder of the Week. She played a key role in Maryland's 2-0 start to conference play, tallying eight points, six draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls. In the 14-12 win over No. 11 Michigan, she recorded two goals, an assist, and three draw controls. She followed up with a dominant performance at Penn State, contributing three goals, two assists, two caused turnovers, and three draw controls in a 19-11 victory.
Scouting the ducks
  • Oregon comes into this Thursday's matchup with a 5-5 record, with wins over San Diego State, Central Michigan, and Columbia. The Ducks have been dominant in their victories, scoring at least 14 goals.
  • Bri Carrasquillo and Anna Simmons lead the offense, each with 27 goals this season. Carrasquillo will head to College Park scoring 18 goals in her last five games.
  • With 162 career draw controls, Rachel Pallo needs just two to pass Morgan McCarthy for third in program history.
  • In goal, Paige Crowther leads the Ducks' defense with a 9.97 goals-against average and a .359 save percentage.

  • Maryland boasted one of the oldest and most experienced collegiate women's lacrosse rosters in 2024.
  • That Terrapin roster featured 12 senior and fifth-year student-athletes who left their mark on the program with a long list of personal and team successes. With just two student-athletes returning from that group, the Terps addressed roster construction for the 2025 season through development and recruitment efforts.
  • Welcoming 11 freshmen on top of a talented group of returners its youthful roster already has made an instant impact.
  • Last week, freshman Kayla Gilmore received conference recognition, earning Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors.
  • Gilmore made an immediate impact in her first two Big Ten games, totaling two points and 11 draw controls. She had a standout performance at Penn State, notching a goal and eight draw controls in Maryland's 19-11 win. She became the first Maryland freshman to earn the honor since Kori Edmondson on March 21, 2023.

  • With three assists in the 2025 season opener, Chrissy Thomas became just the 66th player in Maryland women's lacrosse history to reach the 100-point mark for her career. Thomas currently has 118 points which ranks her 58th on the all-time list.
  • Kori Edmondson recorded her 100th career goal last weekend against No. 3 Northwestern. With that goal, Edmondson now ranks 61st all-time on Maryland's career point list with 113 career points.

  • On February 14, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced the 2025 IWLCA Hall of Fame, which included Maryland head coach Cathy Reese.
  • Reese has guided Maryland to five national championships (2010, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019), 11 Final Fours, and 20 regular-season and tournament championships across the ACC and Big Ten. She is recognized as a four-time IWLCA National Coach of the Year (2010, 2014, 2015, 2019) and a 12-time Conference Coach of the Year.
  • Reese joins former Maryland head coaches Cindy Timchal (Class of 2017) and Suzanne Tyler (Class of 2018) in the IWLCA Hall of Fame.
