COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland baseball's Hollis Porter was named the Big Ten Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Porter becomes the first Terp to earn conference player of the week honors since Matt Shaw back in 2023.
Porter had a phenomenal week on the diamond. He finished the week with a .632 batting average with four doubles, four home runs, and 15 RBI. Porter got the week started with a 3-for-5 game against George Mason, driving in two runs while clubbing a home run and a double. Porter hit his first home run of the weekend against Northwestern on Friday, a three-run shot to right field. Porter followed that up with a 3-4 game on Saturday, hitting a pair of doubles and driving in four or the team's eight runs in the game. Porter's big game came in the series finale with Northwestern, going 5-6 and picking up a career-high six RBI. The six RBI game was the most for the Terps since
Alex Calarco's seven RBI game earlier in the season against Mercyhurst. He hit two home runs in the game, a two-run shot in the third inning and a 3-run homer in the sixth. Porter also added an RBI double as a part of his massive offensive performance. It was the first multi-home run game for Porter at Maryland, and the third of this career.
Porter now has a .319 average on the season, with 12 home runs and 36 RBI in his first year in College Park. Porter's 12 home runs are tied for the 11th-most national and the third-most in the Big Ten. His 36 RBI on the campaign are also one of the top marks in the Big Ten, coming in as the fifth-most in the conference.
Porter and the Terps are back in action on Tuesday at home, as they host UMBC. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m., with the game being available on Big Ten Plus and the Maryland Baseball Network.
