STATESBORO, GA – Maryland softball was defeated by Georgia Southern, 3-1, in its second game in the Hail Southern Classic at Eagle Field at GS Softball Complex on Friday. The Terps are 8-11 heading into tomorrow's slate of games. They will play both Rider and Georgia Southern in rematches.

The Terps scored first, as Sydney Lewis ripped an RBI single up the middle in the top of the first. However, Georgia Southern (12-8) responded with three unanswered runs, each occurring in a separate inning. It scored a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Lewis finished the game with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 while adding a double. Bailey Murphy also posted multiple hits, going 2-for-3. She has multiple hits in back-to-back games, doing so earlier today against Rider. She is batting 4-for-5 in two games thus far in the tournament.

Mazie MacFarlane, Caitlyn Cornwell and Sammi Woods were other Terps who recorded hits.

Despite pitching just 3.1 innings, Julia Shearer had a strong outing in the circle. She struck out two batters and surrendered one run on one hit. Keria Bucher and Bri Godrey also made appearances in the circle.
