Homers And Hastings Headline Terps In Win Over UCLA 13-3

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland baseball jacked four home runs while Logan Hastings had a career outing on the mound in its win over UCLA, 13-3, in game two at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium on Saturday. The Terps are 8-6 overall and 1-1 in Big Ten play heading into the rubber match against the Bruins (11-4) tomorrow at noon.

Eddie Hacopian, Alex Calarco, Hollis Porter and Chris Hacopian all homered in the win. The foremost three home runs occurred in the bottom of the third inning and helped the Terps record a wire-to-wire win. Eddie Hacopian and Calarco's were two-run shots, and Porter's was a solo homer, mounting a 5-0 advantage.

Calarco is swinging a white-hot bat. He has 10 home runs this season and leads the team with 33 RBIs — both ranks among the top three in Division 1 baseball. The senior also extended his hit streak to 13 games, recording one or more in every game outside of the Terps' season opener against UAB.

For Eddie Hacopian, it was the 19th home run of his career and the second of the season. For Porter, it was his fifth at the D1 level since transferring over the offseason. Porter went 2-for-4, adding a double. Chris Hacopian's home run, a two-run shot, occurred in the fifth inning. It was the 20th of his career and the fifth of the season. This was the second time the Hacopian brother homered in the same game, last doing so on March 10, 2024. Through 14 games, Maryland has hit 28 home runs as a team.

Hastings, a freshman, had a career outing in his fifth career start. He earned the first win of his career and went a career-best six innings while striking out three batters and surrendering three earned runs.

The five runs on three long balls weren't the only runs scored in the third. Liam Willson recorded an RBI double, and Elijah Lambros (2-for-3) chipped in with an RBI single to lead 7-0. Jacob Orr later recorded a two RBI double, one of his two doubles in the contest as he went 2-for-3. Willson added another RBI double, going 2-for-4 for his first multi-hit game as a Terp.

The final run for the Terps was brought home by Brayden Martin in the bottom of the sixth on a groundout. The RBI put Maryland ahead 13-3, and Omar Melendez recorded the final three outs in a run-rule victory.
