Terps Lose Tight Contest Against In-State Foe UMBC, 5-2

Box Score COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland baseball was seated by UMBC, 5-2, at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium on Tuesday. Maryland is now 14-15 overall heading into its weekend series at Illinois.

UMBC's Derek Paris drove in the go-ahead and eventual game-winning runs with a two-run homer in the eighth inning. It occurred with the game tied at 2-2 and allowed UMBC (9-13) to take a 4-2 lead. UMBC added their last run in the ninth. The Terps were unable to plate the go-ahead run or send the game to extras. They consistently got runners on base but could not capitalize, leaving 10 stranded.

Elijah Lambros drove in Maryland's two runs, crushing a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Terps trailed 0-1 and allowed them to take the lead. It was Lambros's second homer of the season and 22nd of his career. However, UMBC tied the game up, 2-2, in the sixth inning.
Brayden Ryan began on the mound for the Terps. He pitched three innings, allowing only one run and striking out a batter. Jack Wren was the first out of the bullpen, pitching two scoreless innings and striking out two batters.
