COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland begins a weekend series at home against #15 ranked Oregon on Friday. This is the first meeting between the two programs for both programs. This match-up with Oregon will mark the third of the Big Ten's newest member institutions that Maryland has faced this season, with The Terrapins having faced UCLA and Washington earlier this season.
* - Due to inclement weather, Friday's series opener against Oregon has been postponed. A doubleheader will be played on Sunday, with game times to be announced later in the weekend.
The Terps enter the weekend after splitting a pair of midweek games. The Terps lost its first game of the week at home, falling in a 11-7 game against Georgetown on Tuesday. The Terps went on the road to face Delaware on Wednesday, with strong performances from the offense and pitching in a 10-2 victory.
Year Two For Calarco
- Alex Calarco is having a career year in year two in College Park. Calarco continues to be one of the top hitters in the nation. Calarco ranks among some of the top hitters in multiple categories as the team reaches the midpoint of the season.
- Calarco's 13 home runs this season are the 14th-most in the nation and are tied for the fourth-most in the Big Ten. Calarco was the first player to reach double-digit home runs nationally, while his 47 RBI are also tied for the 11th-most in the country.
- On Thursday, Calarco was named as one of 45 players to the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List. The Golden Spikes Award is given annually to the best amateur baseball player in the country. Calarco is the first Maryland player to feature on the midseason watch list since Matt Shaw in 2023.
Alex Calarco continues to lead the Terrapins' offense in multiple categories and be one of the best hitters in the country. Calarco ranks in the top-15 in both home runs and RBI this season, while hitting for a .299 batting average.
McCoy's Brilliance On The Mound
- Redshirt sophomore Kyle McCoy has returned to the Terrapins' rotation in 2025 after missing the 2024 season due to injury. In his return, McCoy turned in an impressive performance so far and leads the Terps pitching staff in multiple categories. Through eight starts, McCoy has a 3-2 record with a 3.13 ERA and 44 strikeouts.
- McCoy tied his longest outing of his career against USF, going eight innings. The start for McCoy was his third consecutive with seven or more strikeouts. McCoy only allowed one earned run in the outing, with four outings this season where the lefty has allowed zero or one earned run.
- McCoy has been very effective in his first season back from injury. McCoy has had five or more strikeouts in five of his last six outings, holding a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3.7:1. McCoy has thrown the fourth-most innings in the conference this season and is tied for the ninth-fewest walks among qualified pitchers with 12.

Walk it Out
- The Terps' offense continues to be patient at the plate, leading the conference in walks with 204 and ranking 12th in the country. The Terps have four players who rank in the top 25 in the conference in walks this season.
- Brayden Martin leads the bunch with 31 walks, the third-most in the Big Ten and ranking as the 32md-most nationally. Next is Chris Hacopian, whose 27 walks this season are tied for the 10th-most in the conference. Alex Calarco follows with 26 walks which is tied for the 13th-most in the conference. Aden Hill finishes the list for the Terps this season, tied for 22nd in the conference in walks with 22.
Brayden Martin leads the Terps with 31 walks on the season. The Terps have a total of 204 walks on the season, which lead the Big Ten and rank 12th nationally.
Scouting The Ducks
- Oregon enters the weekend after winning its fourth Big Ten series of the season, taking two of three at home against Michigan. The Ducks opened the weekend with a 15-2 run-rule victory. The team slugged five home runs in the contest, while the pitching staff held the visiting Wolverines to just one extra-base hit. Oregon secured the series with its second run-rule victory of the weekend, earning the 13-3 win in eight innings. First baseman Jacob Walsh led the way, hitting a home run and driving in four runs to become the program's career RBI leader. Oregon dropped the final game of the weekend, dropping an offensive game by a score of 12-11.
- Offensively, Maddox Moloney leads the team with a .367 batting average this season. Mason VNeville leads the team in home runs (15), which is tied for the most in the Big Ten and the second-most nationally. Walsh leads the team with 44 hits, batting .349 with eight homers and 33 RBI. The team leader in RBI is Anson Aroz, coming into the series with 35 RBI. Oregon has brought out the big stick all season, hitting 61 on the year for the ninth-most in the country.
- On the pitching side, the Ducks are led by Grayson Grinsell who has five wins on the season and 51 strikeouts. The team ERA leader is Ian Umlandt, who has a 1.57 ERA in 28.2 innings pitched in 2025. The Oregon pitching staff has thrown five shutouts on the year. That total is the second-most in the Big Ten and ranks sixth nationally.
Stanley Bobb Baseball Player Development Center
- On Wednesday, Jan. 14, Maryland unveiled the new Stanley Bobb Baseball Performance Center. This will serve as the new indoor training facility for the Maryland Baseball program.
- This new state-of-the-art facility will allow baseball student-athletes the opportunity to train year round in a controlled environment, allowing them to continue to hone their skills regardless of the conditions.
- The 8,500 square foot facility will have defined spaces for both pitchers and hitters in a climate controlled environment. The facility features state-of-the-art technology.
- This project is one of the many as part of Maryland's Building Champions initiative, a campaign that enables investment in facility renovation and enhancement.
- The facility is named after the late Stanley Bobb, who pitched for the Terps from 1954-57. A member of the Greater Washington Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, Bobb was the starting pitcher in the dedication game at then-Shipley Field in 1954.
