COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland begins the week with a trip to Emmitsburg, Maryland to face Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday. This is the second meeting for the two programs this season, with the two teams meeting earlier in the season in College Park.
The Terrapins are coming off a series loss at home to Oregon. Both teams battled in a pitchers duel on Saturday's series opener. The Terps took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the eighth on a solo home run by Jacob Orr., but fell after allowing two runs in the top of the ninth. The teams split the doubleheader on Sunday to close out the weekend, with the Terps earning a 12-2 run-rule victory in the first game. Oregon would clinch the series win in the second game of the doubleheader, winning 13-3.
Year Two For Calarco
- Alex Calarco is having a career year in year two in College Park. Calarco continues to be one of the top hitters in the nation. Calarco ranks among some of the top hitters in multiple categories as the team reaches the midpoint of the season.
- Calarco's 13 home runs this season are the 24th-most in the nation and are tied for the fourth-most in the Big Ten. Calarco was the first player to reach double-digit home runs nationally. Calarco has 49 RBI on the year, which are tied for the 11th-most in the country.
- On Thursday, Calarco was named as one of 45 players to the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List. The Golden Spikes Award is given annually to the best amateur baseball player in the country. Calarco is the first Maryland player to feature on the midseason watch list since Matt Shaw in 2023.
Alex Calarco continues to lead the Terrapins' offense in multiple categories and be one of the best hitters in the country. Calarco ranks in the top-25 in both home runs and RBI this season, while hitting for a .292 batting average.
McCoy's Brilliance On The Mound
- Redshirt sophomore Kyle McCoy has returned to the Terrapins' rotation in 2025 after missing the 2024 season due to injury. In his return, McCoy turned in an impressive performance so far and leads the Terps pitching staff in multiple categories. Through eight starts, McCoy has a 3-2 record with a 3.06 ERA and 51 strikeouts.
- McCoy tied his longest outing of his career against USF, going eight innings. The start for McCoy was his third consecutive with seven or more strikeouts. McCoy only allowed one earned run in the outing, with four outings this season where the lefty has allowed zero or one earned run.
- McCoy has been very effective in his first season back from injury. McCoy has had five or more strikeouts in six of his last seven outings, holding a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3.6:1. McCoy is tied for the third-most innings in the conference this season and has allowed just 14 walks across his 53 innings pitched this season.

Walk it Out
- The Terps' offense continues to be patient at the plate, leading the conference in walks with 225 and ranking 12th in the country. The Terps have four players who rank in the top 25 in the conference in walks this season.
- Brayden Martin leads the bunch with 36 walks, tied for the most in the Big Ten and ranking as the 17th-most nationally. Next is Chris Hacopian, whose 29 walks this season are tied for the 10th-most in the conference. Alex Calarco follows with 28 walks which is tied for the 12th-most in the conference. Aden Hill finishes the list for the Terps this season, tied for 24th in the Big Ten in walks with 23.
Brayden Martin leads the Terps with 36 walks on the season. The Terps have a total of 225 walks on the season, which lead the Big Ten and rank 11th nationally.
Scouting The Mountaineers
- Mount St. Mary's enters the week after heading on the road to face Big Ten foe Michigan. Mount St. Mary's dropped all three games in the series, losing the first by a score of 10-0. In the second game, the Mountaineers and Wolverines battled in a pitchers duel, with Michigan eking out a 3-1 win. Mountaineers starter Serigne Sarre went six innings, allowing only four hits. He was followed by Eli DeRossi, who threw two innings of scoreless baseball. Mount St. Mary's fell in the series finale, losing 10-0.
- Offensively, Ty Fredo leads the team in hits (46) and batting average (.336). Fredo's 46 hits on the season are tied for the fifth-most in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Nolan Book leads the team in RBI with 31 while hitting for a .315 average. The team is led in home runs by Mateo Zeppieri, who has eight on the season. That total is also one of the top marks in the MAAC, tied for eighth in the conference.
- On the pitching side, the Mountaineers are led by the duo of Serigne Sarre and Eli DeRossi. Both lead the team in innings pitched, with 46.1 and 42.2 respectively. Sarre has a 3.11 ERA this season, while leading the team with 58 strikeouts. Sarre's 58 strikeouts also lead the MAAC, while DeRossi's 40 strikeouts on the season are ranked eighth. DeRossi has a 3-1 record on the year, and is holding opposing hitters to a .159 batting average.
Stanley Bobb Baseball Player Development Center
- On Wednesday, Jan. 14, Maryland unveiled the new Stanley Bobb Baseball Performance Center. This will serve as the new indoor training facility for the Maryland Baseball program.
- This new state-of-the-art facility will allow baseball student-athletes the opportunity to train year round in a controlled environment, allowing them to continue to hone their skills regardless of the conditions.
- The 8,500 square foot facility will have defined spaces for both pitchers and hitters in a climate controlled environment. The facility features state-of-the-art technology.
- This project is one of the many as part of Maryland's Building Champions initiative, a campaign that enables investment in facility renovation and enhancement.
- The facility is named after the late Stanley Bobb, who pitched for the Terps from 1954-57. A member of the Greater Washington Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, Bobb was the starting pitcher in the dedication game at then-Shipley Field in 1954.
