COLLEGE PARK, MD --Â The No. 8 seed University of Maryland women's tennis team defeated No. 9 seed Iowa 4-1 in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday.

The Terps got going early, with
Diya Challa and
Ema Kovacevic winning the No. 1 singles match 6-3. Iowa took a hard fought No. 3 doubles match 7-5.Â
With the doubles point on the line,
Danielle Hack and
Kallista Liu won the No. 2 doubles match 6-4 to clinch the doubles point and a 1-0 lead.Â

Diya Challa kept the momentum going from doubles into singles, winning the No. 5 singles match 6-3, 6-1. Iowa responded, winning the No. 1 singles match to pull within one.
Aida Eissa extended the Terps lead, winning the No. 6 singles match 6-2, 6-3. Only needing one more singles win to clinch the match,
Oliwia Orlinska got it done in the No. 4 singles match, winning 6-3, 6-3.Â
