COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland begins a streak of eight consecutive road games on Tuesday as it faces Georgetown. This is the third meeting between the two teams this year, with both previous games occurring in College Park. The teams have split both games, with Maryland winning the first game 14-7 and Georgetown winning the second contest 11-7.
The Terrapins enter the week after dropping a series at home to Nebraska. The Terrapins took game one of the series 12-5, behind a six-inning outing by Kyle McCoy and four homers. Logan Hastings finished the game off, earning his first collegiate save. The Terps would lose the final two games of the weekend.
Year Two For Calarco
- Alex Calarco is having a career year in year two in College Park. Calarco continues to be one of the top hitters in the nation. Calarco ranks among some of the top hitters in multiple categories as the team reaches the midpoint of the season.
- Calarco's 16 home runs this season are the 14th-most in the nation and tied for the third-most in the Big Ten. Calarco was the first player to reach double-digit home runs nationally. Calarco has 57 RBI on the year, which are the second-most in the Big Ten.
- Calarco was named as one of 45 players to the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List. The Golden Spikes Award is given annually to the best amateur baseball player in the country. Calarco is the first Maryland player to feature on the midseason watch list since Matt Shaw in 2023.
Alex Calarco continues to lead the Terrapins' offense in multiple categories and be one of the best hitters in the country. Calarco ranks in the top-25 in both home runs and RBI this season, while hitting for a .305 batting average.
McCoy's Brilliance On The Mound
- Redshirt sophomore Kyle McCoy has returned to the Terrapins' rotation in 2025 after missing the 2024 season due to injury. In his return, McCoy turned in an impressive performance so far and leads the Terps pitching staff in multiple categories. Through eight starts, McCoy has a 4-2 record with a 3.27 ERA and 60 strikeouts.
- McCoy tied his longest outing of his career against USF, going eight innings. The start for McCoy was his third consecutive with seven or more strikeouts. McCoy only allowed one earned run in the outing, with four outings this season where the lefty has allowed zero or one earned run.
- McCoy has been very effective in his first season back from injury. McCoy has had five or more strikeouts in seven of his last nine outings, holding a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3.5:1. McCoy has thrown the second-most innings in the conference this season and has allowed just 17 walks across his 66 innings pitched this season.

Walk it Out
- The Terps' offense continues to be patient at the plate, leading the conference in walks with 266 and ranking 11th in the country. The Terps have four players who rank in the top 25 in the conference in walks this season.

Brayden Martin leads the bunch with 46 walks, the most in the Big Ten and ranking as the ninth-most nationally. That total for Martin is also one of the highest in single-season for a Terp, tied for the fifth-most in program history.
- Checking in next is Alex Calarco. Calarco has 34 walks on the year, tied for the ninth-most in the Big Ten. Chris Hacopian follows with 33 walks this season, tied for 12th in the conference. Closing out the list for Maryland is Elijah Lambros, who is tied for 25th in the Big Ten with 26 walks.
Brayden Martin leads the Terps with 46 walks on the season. The Terps have a total of 266 walks on the season, which lead the Big Ten and rank 11th nationally.
Scouting The Hoyas
- Georgetown enters the week playing its first of two midweek games with Maryland on Tuesday and Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday. The Hoyas are coming off a series lost on the road against Xavier in Big East play. JT Raab got the start for Georgetown in game one of the weekend, going 6.2 innings with seven strikeouts and just four hits allowed. The game would go to extras, with Georgetown taking a 2-1 lead into the bottom half of the tenth. Xavier would ultimately take the game on a walkoff grand slam in a 6-2 final. Georgetown put up a strong fight in its two other games of the weekend, but could not secure a victory in the conference series.
- Offensively, Blake Schaaf leads the Hoyas offense with a .328 batting average and has 24 stolen bases on the season. His 24 stolen bases are the second-most in the Big East. The Hoyas wreak havoc on the basepaths, with 102 stolen bases as a team. That total ranks 16th nationally and second in the Big Ten, with the Hoyas having four players with ten or more stolen bases this season. Owen Carapellotti leads the team in both home runs (14) and RBI (41) in the campaign.
- On the pitching side, JT Raab leads the team with a 4-1 record with a 3.43 ERA. Raab has 60 strikeouts on the season and has thrown a team-leading 60.1 innings on the mound. Raab's 60 strikeouts are the most in the Big East and is second in the conference in innings pitched. Kai Leckszas leads the Hoyas in the bullpen, making 16 appearances on the year with four saves. Leckszas has 23 strikeouts across his 32.2 innings pitched, all while holding opposing batters to a .227 batting average.
Stanley Bobb Baseball Player Development Center
- On Wednesday, Jan. 14, Maryland unveiled the new Stanley Bobb Baseball Performance Center. This will serve as the new indoor training facility for the Maryland Baseball program.
- This new state-of-the-art facility will allow baseball student-athletes the opportunity to train year round in a controlled environment, allowing them to continue to hone their skills regardless of the conditions.
- The 8,500 square foot facility will have defined spaces for both pitchers and hitters in a climate controlled environment. The facility features state-of-the-art technology.
- This project is one of the many as part of Maryland's Building Champions initiative, a campaign that enables investment in facility renovation and enhancement.
- The facility is named after the late Stanley Bobb, who pitched for the Terps from 1954-57. A member of the Greater Washington Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, Bobb was the starting pitcher in the dedication game at then-Shipley Field in 1954.
