Terps Travel To Bloomington To Take On Hoosiers

COLLEGE PARK, MD - Maryland Softball is headed to Bloomington for another Big Ten road test as the Terps take on Indiana. Due to inclement weather, Maryland softball's game at Indiana originally scheduled for Saturday, April 5 at 6 p.m. has been rescheduled. The Terps will now face the Hoosiers in a doubleheader on Monday, April 7, with the first game beginning at 10:30 a.m. and the second at 1 p.m. The Sunday, April 6 game remains scheduled for 7:00 p.m. That game will air on Big Ten Network.

  • Maryland enters the weekend with a 15-19 overall record and a 3-7 mark in Big Ten play. The Terps opened conference action with a series win over Rutgers, went 1-3 in Oklahoma City, and most recently dropped three games to nationally ranked UCLA.=
  • Against the Bruins, Maryland fell in Friday's opener 9-0 (5 innings), with sophomore Bailey Murphy going 2-for-2 at the plate. On Saturday, the Terps held the No. 7 Bruins scoreless through five innings before UCLA broke through with a three-run homer. Maryland responded with a run in the bottom half after a Madison Runyan double and Mazie MacFarlane RBI single, cutting the deficit to two. UCLA answered with another three-run shot to secure the 6-1 win. Maryland dropped the series finale 10-1 in five innings.
  • On Tuesday, Maryland dropped a midweek matchup to No. 25 Virginia, 4-3, on a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh. The Terps took a 3-0 lead after an RBI single from Sam Bean and bases-loaded walks drawn by Madison Runyan and Bailey Murphy. Julia Shearer pitched five strong innings, striking out three and holding the Cavaliers scoreless in four of her five frames. Virginia tied it in the third with a three-run homer and walked it off in the seventh after a fielding error and an RBI double.
  • Indiana enters the weekend with a 23-10 overall record and a 3-5 mark in Big Ten play. The Hoosiers dropped two games at Iowa to open conference play before taking two of three from Penn State. Most recently, they faced No. 18 Ohio State, dropping the first two games (7-1, 12-4) but bouncing back with a 13-7 win in the series finale.
  • Offensively, Indiana is one of the top teams in the country. Taylor Minnick leads the way with a .484 batting average, nine home runs, 14 doubles, and a team-high 41 RBI. The Hoosiers rank second nationally in batting average (.381), lead the country in doubles per game (2.18), and sit top 10 in both scoring (7th, 8.12 runs/game) and slugging percentage (6th, .632).
  • In the circle, Indiana is led by Jenae Berry (3.38 ERA, 8-3) and Brianna Copeland (4.88 ERA, 8-4, 94 strikeouts), along with Jasmine Reyes (4.18 ERA in 19 appearances).
  • Indiana leads the all-time series 16-6. The teams last met in 2023 when the Hoosiers swept the Terps in Bloomington. Maryland is 3-9 on the road against Indiana.

  • 2024 All-Big Ten Second Team honorees Mazie MacFarlane and Sydney Lewis have carried their momentum into the 2025 season with standout performances.
  • MacFarlane ranks second on the team with a .340 batting average and leads the Terps in both hits (36) and doubles (12). She shined in the series win over Rutgers, going 4-for-7 across the two victories, launching two home runs, and tallying five RBIs while maintaining a perfect fielding percentage.
  • Lewis has already surpassed her home run total from last season with seven so far in 2025. She delivered a clutch performance in the rubber match against Rutgers, going 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs.

A Look Into the Terps' Pitching Staff
 
  • Junior Bri Godfrey and freshman Aubrey Wurst lead Maryland's pitching staff, each earning five wins this season. Godfrey holds a 4.32 ERA and is tied for the team lead with 36 strikeouts. She has thrown four complete games, including two shutouts. Wurst matches her with 36 strikeouts and carries a 4.56 ERA.
  • Sophomore Julia Shearer, who also plays right field, has contributed four complete games and two shutouts. She currently holds a 5.95 ERA with 31 strikeouts.
  • Junior Keira Booker boasts the team's lowest ERA at 3.95. Primarily used in relief, she has made 11 appearances, totaling 23 strikeouts while allowing just 13 walks.
