No. 9 Terps Host Virginia For One Love Game

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland hosts No. 12 Virginia in One Love Game at Notre Dame Prep on Wednesday at 6 p.m. 

Founded in 2010 to honor the memory of former Virginia women's lacrosse player Yeardley Love, the One Love Foundation is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to educating, empowering, and activating young people in a movement to end relationship violence and promote healthy relationships.

Where We've Been
  • The Terrapins are 9-3 this season and 4-1 in Big Ten play. This season Maryland has ranked wins over #18 USC, #13 JMU and #11 Michigan. Junior Kori Edmondson is the catalyst for the Terrapins offense and leads the team with 42 points and 34 goals. Grad student Chrissy Thomas leads the team with 23 assists. Defensively, the Terps are anchored by captains Kennedy Major and Neve O'Ferrall
  • Maryland went 2-0 on its West Coast swing after dominating No. 18 USC, 16-8  on Saturday. Their other win on their road trip was against Arizona State on April 3. This was Maryland's third win over a ranked team this season. 
  • USC got off to an early 2-0 lead by scoring twice in the opening 1:46. However, Maryland scored 11 of the following 12 goals, including a 10-goal unanswered run to lead 11-3 at halftime. Maryland remained in control for the rest of the game and cruised to victory. The Terps dominated defensively, holding the Trojans scoreless for 33:12 through the first and third quarters. Chrissy Thomas recorded a career-day with three goals and four assist in the win.  It was Thomas's fifth career hat trick and first of the season.  She matched her seven points on May 4, 2023, against Rutgers.

Maryland went 2-0 on the West Coast this past weekend with wins over Arizona State and #18 USC.

  •  Devin Livingston has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the first time in her career after an impressive two-game stretch.
  • She recorded three goals in Maryland's 18-14 win against Arizona State on Thursday. It was the first three-goal game of her career. On Saturday, against #18 USC, Livingston scored two goals that helped Maryland earn their first program victory over the Trojans.

Scouting the Cavaliers
  • No. 11 Virginia will head into the One Love Game against Maryland after starting the season 9-4. This season they have a ranked wins over No. 17 Princeton, No. 13 Duke, and No. 14 JMU.
  • Offensively, Jenna Dinardo leads the way for the Cavaliers, leading the team in goals with 39. Madison Alaimo is the top feeder for the Cavaliers offense with 39 assists this season which is third in the conference.  
  • In goal, Mel Josephson anchors the Virginia defense. This season she has a 11.43 GAA and a .405 save percentage.
  • This marks the 62nd meeting between Maryland and Virginia. The Terps have historically controlled the series, leading 45-17 over the past 47 years. The two teams first met in 1978, with Maryland earning a 14-1 victory

  • With three assists in the 2025 season opener, Chrissy Thomas became just the 66th player in Maryland women's lacrosse history to reach the 100-point mark for her career. Thomas currently has 131 points which ranks her 52nd on the all-time list.
  • Kori Edmondson recorded her 100th career goal against No. 3 Northwestern. Edmondson now ranks 54th all-time on Maryland's career point list with 127 career points.

  • On February 14, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced the 2025 IWLCA Hall of Fame, which included Maryland head coach Cathy Reese.
  • Reese has guided Maryland to five national championships (2010, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019), 11 Final Fours, and 20 regular-season and tournament championships across the ACC and Big Ten. She is recognized as a four-time IWLCA National Coach of the Year (2010, 2014, 2015, 2019) and a 12-time Conference Coach of the Year.
  • Reese joins former Maryland head coaches Cindy Timchal (Class of 2017) and Suzanne Tyler (Class of 2018) in the IWLCA Hall of Fame.
