Terps' Late Inning Rally Falls Short In Loss To Georgetown, 11-7

Box Score COLLEGE PARK, MD – After previously defeating Georgetown on March 18, Maryland baseball was defeated by the Hoyas, 11-7, at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium on Tuesday. The Terps are now 14-19 overall, splitting its two games this season against the Hoyas. It will face Georgetown in a rubber match on April 29. 

Georgetown (12-20) increased its lead to 10-5 with a grand slam in the top of the seventh inning after leading by just one run at 6-5. The Terps tied the game at 5-5 with a four-run bottom of the third inning, but the Hoyas closed the game by scoring six unanswered runs. 

Eddie Hacopian ended the drought with an RBI single in the eighth. The Terps then loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth but were only able to drive in one run off an RBI single by Aden Hill. The RBI was one of two he drove in during the contest.  

Hollis Porter drove in three of Maryland's runs, crushing a three-run home run in the third to tie the game up. He went 3-for-5 with two runs scored. It was his 13th homer of the season, also tying Alex Calarco for the most home runs on the team this season. The duo now has 26 home runs, the most between any teammates in the Big Ten. 
  Logan Hastings and Devin Milberg each pitched 1.2 innings, combining for four strikeouts and surrendering four runs. Hastings allowed just one earned run in his appearance. Jack Wren and Andrew Johnson also made bullpen appearances. Johnson tied his career-high with five strikeouts in 1.2 innings pitched. 

Joey McMannis made his fifth start of the season on the mound. He pitched three innings and struck out two batters. 

Breaking Down The Action
  • Georgetown took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with an RBI single. However, Joey McMannis got out of the inning by stranding two runners in scoring position.
  • McMannis pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the second. 
  • Maryland tied the game at 1-1 on a fielder's choice. Aden Hill was credited with the RBI. 
  • Georgetown added four runs in the third, leading 5-1. 
  • The Terps tied the game up, 5-5, in the bottom frame of the third. Hollis Porter destroyed a three-run blast down the right-field line, and Chris Hacopian drove in the other run on a fielder's choice. 
  • Logan Hastings dealt a 1-2-3 inning in the fourth.
  • The Hoyas added a run off a sacrifice fly, taking a one-run lead. 
  • Devin Milberg exited a jam in the sixth, stranding the Hoyas in a bases-loaded opportunity.
  • Georgetown hit a grand slam in the seventh, going ahead 10-5. 
  • In the eighth, Georgetown added a run, leading by six runs.
  • Eddie Hacopian hit an RBI single through the left field in the eighth, and Maryland trailed 11-6 entering the final inning.
  • The Terps made a last attempt to cut into the Hoyas lead, scoring one run in the ninth.

  • Eddie Hacopian recorded one RBI, giving him 123 for his career, ranking 15th in program history. He's nearing 14th place Craig Monroe (124 from 1997-2000). 
  • He is also one of 14 players in program history with 200 hits. With 202 in his career, he's nearing 10th place Charlie White (210 from 2011-14).
