COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Terps return home to College Park to host Iowa in another Big Ten weekend series at the Maryland Softball Complex. Due to expected inclement weather, Maryland softball has made changes to its weekend series schedule against Iowa. Friday's game, originally set for a 6:00 PM first pitch, has been rescheduled for Saturday. Saturday will now be a doubleheader, with game one beginning at 3:00 PM, a change from the originally scheduled 2:00 PM start. Game two will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.

matchup preview
  • Maryland enters the weekend with a 15-22 overall record and a 3-10 mark in Big Ten play. The Terps opened conference action with a series win over Rutgers, went 1-3 in Oklahoma City, and most recently dropped three games to nationally ranked UCLA and Indiana.
  • In their road series at Indiana, Maryland fell in all three contests. The series opener was a high-scoring affair that saw the Terps jump out to an 8-4 lead before a weather delay. Indiana responded with 15 runs in the bottom of the fourth to hand Maryland a 20-10 loss in five innings. Sydney Lewis hit a two-run home run, and the Terps drew 15 walks, tying a single-game program record. In game two, Julia Shearer tossed a complete game, allowing just two runs on five hits with four strikeouts, but the Terps were shut out in a 2-0 loss. In the finale, Maryland came up short 6-3 after falling behind early. Keira Bucher threw 4.2 innings of one-run relief, while Mazie MacFarlane extended her on-base streak to 26 games with an RBI single. Sammi Woods and Madison Runyan also added RBIs.
  • Iowa enters the series with a 22-15 overall record and a 4-6 record in Big Ten play, currently sitting 11th in the conference. The Hawkeyes opened conference play by winning two close games against Indiana. They went on to upset then-No. 5 UCLA in the second game of that series before being swept by Wisconsin. Most recently, Iowa went 1-2 against No. 20 Nebraska.
  • Sophomore Soo-Jin Berry leads the Hawkeyes with a team-high eight home runs and 23 RBIs, while batting .342. Jena Young has been another key contributor at the plate, leading the team with a .383 batting average, 44 hits, and four triples.

  • Maryland and Iowa have met 20 times in program history, with the Terps holding a 12-8 edge in the series. Their most recent meeting came in 2023, when the Hawkeyes earned a narrow 4-3 win in Fort Collins, Colorado.
