Terps Secure Series Win At Minnesota With 8-5 Win In Game Two

MINNEAPOLIS – Maryland baseball secured its second straight series victory with an 8-5 win over Minnesota in game two at Siebert Field on Saturday. The Terps improved to 25-27 overall and 10-16 in the Big Ten as they continue to make a late-season push for a spot in the Big Ten Tournament.

The game featured three lead changes. However, a solo home run by Chris Hacopian in the top of the sixth inning broke a 5-5 tie. Aden Hill then homered in the ninth, and Parker Corbin hit a RBI single, plating two insurance runs.
Logan Hastings picked up his fourth win of the season, as he pitched four scoreless innings and surrendered just one hit. Cristofer Cespedes earned his first career save, as he didn't allow a run or hit in the final 1.2 innings. He also worked out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth to secure the save.

Hacopian's home run was one of his three hits in the game. The long ball was his 12th of the season and 27th of his career, tying him for 15th all-time in a career with Scott Bronowicz (1995-98). He finished with a pair of RBIs, as he also drove in a run on a single in the second. His single was part of four RBI singles in a row by the Terps that helped them take a 4-2 lead after falling down 2-0 in the bottom of the first.

Alex Calarco (2-for-4) joined Hacopian and Hill as Terps with a home run in the game. His tied the game at 5-5 in the fifth. It was his 17th home run of the season, tying Jason Maxey (2002) for the 11th most for a single season in program history.
Maryland has hit 85 home runs this season. The mark is the fourth-most for a single season in program history. The Terps are closing in on their third-most in a single season, which is 88 in 1985. Their record is 137 homers in 2022.

Paul Jones II, Brayden Martin and Hollis Porter were the others to hit an RBI single in the second inning. Jones, a Minnesota native, finished the game going 2-for-4 at the plate, earning his first career multi-hit game. Martin also walked twice, giving him 56 walks this season. He ranks third on the single-season walks leaderboard.

Joey McMannis started on the mound. He pitched 3.1 innings while striking out two Minnesota (22-26, 8-18 Big Ten) batters. He also gave up just two earned runs on six hits.
