Porter, Hacopian Homer In Series Finale Loss To Penn State, 8-4

STATE COLLEGE, PA –  Hollis Porter and Chris Hacopian drove in all of the Terps' runs as each hit a two-run home run in Maryland baseball's 8-4 loss at Penn State in the series finale at Medlar Field on Sunday. The game was postponed in the top of the seventh due to a rain delay. Maryland is now 22-27 overall and 8-16 in Big Ten play.

Porter hit his two-run home run in the top of the first, giving Maryland an early 2-0 lead. It was his 20th of the season, allowing him to become the fifth Terp to hit 20 or more home runs in a season. It was also the sixth time a player reached that many homers, as Matt Shaw did twice in 2022 and 2023. Porter went 3-for-5 in the game.
Hacopian crushed his two-run shot in the seventh, right before the rain delay. It was Hacopian's tenth homer of the season and 25th of his career. He has five home runs in his last 10 games. Hacopian went 2-for-3, scoring two runs.
Penn State (27-19, 13-14 Big Ten) plated three runs in the fourth to claim its first lead of the game. Hacopian's homer cut the deficit to two at 6-4, but the Nittany Lions got the runs back in the bottom of the inning.

Omar Melendez made his fourth start on the mound this season. He pitched five innings, surrendering just two runs. Jake Yeager pitched one scoreless inning, and Jack Wren finished the game, pitching the final two innings.

Jacob Orr joined Porter and Hacopian as the only other Terp to record multiple hits. He went 2-for-5 at the plate.
