a historic start
- Heading into Family Weekend vs. Washington, the Terps are 4-0 to start the season for the third time in the last five years. Since 2021, they are tied for the second-most 4-0 starts in the country, trailing only Oregon and Penn State (each with four).
- Maryland also made history with its first-ever road win against Wisconsin. The 20-point halftime lead marked their largest shutout advantage in a Big Ten road game sincejoining the conference in 2014, and their biggest in any road conference game since leading NC State 24-0 at halftime in 2007.
- The Terps are one of just three eams nationally that have yet to trail in a game this season, joining Miami (FL) and Texas Tech.
- Defensively, Maryland has allowed just 43 points through four games, their fewest at this point in a season since 2013.
- The Terps are one of just 20 undefeated teams remaining in FBS football.
- Maryland is seeking to go 5-0 for the 10th time in program history (1893, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1955, 1976, 1978, 2001, 2023).
- The Terps would be one of six Big Ten teams with multiple 5-0 starts over the last five seasons, joining Ohio State, Oregon, Indiana, Michigan and Penn State.
- Maryland is looking to start 2-0 in Big Ten play for the second time in three seasons (last in 2023), and just the second time since joining the conference.

- Maryland and Washington will meet for just the second time in series history, with the Huskies holding a 1–0 all-time advantage.
- The only previous meeting came in the inaugural Aloha Bowl, a tightly contested game played on Christmas Day in 1982 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
- Quarterback Boomer Esiason completed 19 of 32 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns, connecting with Dave D'Addio and John Tice for the scores.
- This will be the Huskies' first-ever trip to College Park.
The last and only time Maryland faced Washington, Boomer Esiason was the quarterback.
MALIK Washington Off to Historic Start
- Malik Washington leads all FBS true freshmen with 259.5 passing yards per game and is tied with Cal's Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele (who has played five games) for the most touchdown passes among true freshmen, with eight through four games.
- Washington's 1038 yards are the second-most by a true freshman through four career games in a Power Conference since 2019.The last true freshman playing in Power 5 football to have more passing yards through four games was Jayden Daniels with Arizona State who had passing yards 1073 yards in 2019.
- Washington is just the fifth Power Conference quarterback since 2019 to record at least 80 completions through the first four games of a season. Only South Carolina's Ryan Hilinski (88), Cal's Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele (88), Mississippi State's Will Rogers (83), and Nebraska's Dylan Raiola (83) have completed more.
- Since 2019, only one Power Conference quarterback has thrown more touchdowns throught his first four career games than Washington (8). North Carolina's Sam Howell, had nine. He is tied with UCLA's Dante Moore (2023) and Nebraska's Dylan Raiola (2024), who also threw eight.
- Washington has three games with multiple passing touchdowns this season, tied for the most by any DI (FBS/FCS) freshman this season. His 10 total touchdowns are tied with BYU's Bear Bachmeier for the most by any DI true freshman this season
- Washington became the fifth Power Conference quarterback to start his career with four straight performances of throwing for 250+ yards.
- Washington is the first Maryland QB to throw for 250+ yards in each of his first four career starts since Scott Milanovich in 1993.
- Washington attempted 128 passes to start his collegiate career before taking a sack. He entered the day as the first Big Ten quarterback with no sacks taken and 100+ attempts through three games in a season since Drew Brees (Purdue) in 1999.
- Washington has also scored touchdowns in three of its four opening drives in 2025.
- Washington is tied for first among all true freshmen in total touchdowns with 10 (eight passing, two rushing), tied with Bear Bachmeier from BYU.
 Defensive dominance
- The Terps have allowed 43 points through four games is Maryland's lowest since 2013 (41 points).
- Maryland's scoring defense ranks seventh nationally, and third in the Big Ten, allowing just 10.8 points per game.
- The Terps are tied with Alabama for the national lead in turnover margin, averaging +1.75 per game.
- Maryland ranks second nationally in red zone defense, behind only Ohio State. Opponents have scored on just 50% of their trips to the red zone, with the Terps allowing no rushing touchdowns and only two passing scores.
- The Terps defense has not allowed a score on the first possession of the game this season. Washington has scored touchdowns in three of its four opening drives in 2025.
- The Terps have recorded eight interceptions this season, the second most in the FBS, trailing only Louisiana Tech (11) which has played five games. Historically, only three Big Ten teams have led the FBS in defensive interceptions over the last 30 seasons (2022 Illinois, 2021 Iowa and 2017 Iowa).
- Junior linebacker Daniel Wingate has played a major role in the Terps' defensive success. He ranks second in the Big Ten with an average of 9.75 tackles per game and was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after Week 4.
- Maryland recorded six sacks and an interception in its most recent win over Wisconsin. It was the fourth conference game where the Terrapins recorded at least six sacks and an interception since moving to the Big Ten in 2014 (most recently on September 17, 2021).
Daniel Wingate ranks second in the Big Ten with an average of 9.75 tackles per game and was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after Week 4.

- Maryland ranks tied for first nationally in sacks per game, averaging 4.0, tied with Oklahoma and Tennessee. This leads all Big Ten teams.
- Sidney Stewart is tied for second in the Big Ten and seventh nationally in sacks per game (1.0), with four so far this season.
- Stewart also leads the Big Ten and ranks seventh nationally in tackles for loss per game (1.63).

WR Standouts
- Senior WR Shaleak Knotts has four receiving touchdowns of 25 or more yards this season, tied for the most in the FBS.
- Knotts has five total touchdowns this season, scoring at least one in each of the first four games. That total ties him for the most touchdowns by any Terrapin through the first four games of a season in the last 30 years, joining Tai Felton (2024), DJ Moore (2017), and Torrey Smith (2010).
- Knotts is one of just seven Big Ten players since 2019 to open a season with a streak of four or more consecutive games with a receiving touchdown. His current streak of four games is tied for the fourth-longest in that span, trailing only Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith (seven games, 2024) and Julian Fleming (five games, 2022), and Penn State's Jahan Dotson (five games, 2021).
- Senior WR Octavian Smith Jr. is one of just five Maryland wide receivers since 2000 to record back-to-back 100-yard receiving games, joining Tai Felton (2024), Dontay Demus Jr. (2021), Stefon Diggs (2012, 2013), and Torrey Smith (2009, 2010).
- If Smith Jr. records another 100-yard receiving game against Washington, he and Tai Felton (2024) will be the only Maryland receivers since 2000 to post three straight 100-yard games.
Shaleak Knotts has five total touchdowns this season, scoring at least one in each of the first four games.
Special Special Teams
- Punter Bryce McFerson leads the Big Ten and ranks sixth nationally with a career-best average of 47.6 yards per punt.
- Kicker Sean O'Haire is tied for second nationally with 2.5 field goals made per game. The redshirt freshman has connected on 22 of his 23 career field goal attempts.
- Maryland ranks second nationally in blocked kicks with three and is tied for fifth in blocked punts with two.
- Messiah Delhomme is one of just four players in the country with two blocked kicks or punts this season.
- In their most recent game against Wisconsin, the Terps blocked both a field goal and a punt—marking the first time they've done so in the same game since at least 2008.
