No. 22 Maryland Starts Big Ten Action With 194.625-193.575 Win Over Washington

The Terps posted season-high scores in two events on Saturday night in their first conference meet of the season.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — The No. 22 Terps kept their impressive start to the season rolling with a 194.625-193.575 win over Washington at XFINITY Center on Saturday night. Josephine Kogler and Madeline Komoroski had incredible nights as Maryland dazzled all night long to improve to 4-0 on the season and begin Big Ten action 1-0.

Maryland started the night with a strong performance on vault. Katrina Mendez-Abolnik led the way with a 9.850 mark while Rayna Engelmayer and Taylor Rech picked up a pair of 9.825 scores as Maryland posted a 49.100 team score to flip its way into an early lead. The Terps moved over to the uneven bars for their second rotation, where their 48.650 team score — highlighted by Aine Reade and Madeline Komoroskis' team-leading 9.725 marks — was enough to extend Maryland's lead to 97.625-96.800 halfway through the meet.  Emily DeFrees' 9.875 paved the way for Maryland's 48.950 team score on the balance beam. Madeline Komoroski contributed an impressive 9.825 mark as the Terps moved a rotation away from their first Big Ten win of the season.  Maryland closed out the victory with a 48.050 team score on the floor, which was highlighted by a 9.875 from Madeline Komoroski, a 9.850 from Taylor Rech, and a 9.725 from Josephine Kogler. The Terps outscored the Huskies in all four events on Saturday night.  Not only did Maryland get the win, but the Terps also earned season-high team scores in both vault and balance beam after their season-opening sweep over New Hampshire, Long Island, and George Washington in the Terrapin Quad on Jan. 9. Maryland is back in action again on the road against Penn State on Jan. 25.
