STATE COLLEGE, PA — Maryland posted a program-record 49.575 on the floor on Saturday, but fell for just the first time this season, 197.250-196.675, on the road at No. 17 Penn State. The Terps had a record day and tallied several season, career, and program highs, but a strong day from the Nittany Lions kept them undefeated on the season.
Maryland's 49.575 on the floor set a new program record, passing the previous 49.550 set against Temple in 2000. Madeline Komoroski and Aine Reade both scored career-high 9.975s on the floor, which are tied for the fourth-best marks in school history and the program's highest marks since 2001, when Jill Fisher scored a perfect 10.0 at the EAGL Championships. Saturday marked the first time in program history that two gymnasts both scored 9.975s on the floor in the same meet.
The Terps (4-1, 1-1 Big Ten) got started on the uneven bars, where Aine Reade's season-high 9.850 mark paved the way to a season-high 49.075 team score. Sarah Saville and Chelsey Dennis both posted 9.825 scores in the opening event.
Maryland wrapped up its day over on the balance beam, where Josephine Kogler led the way with a 9.875 while a trio of Terps posted 9.800 marks as Maryland earned a season-high 49.050 team tally.
