Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 7 Maryland Downs Indiana, 82-67, Honors 2006 National Champions

Oluchi Okananwa posted a career-high 34 points as the Terps improved to 12-0 at home.

COLLEGE PARK, MD – On an evening where Maryland women's basketball honored the 20th anniversary of its 2006 national championship title, the No. 7 Terps added to the day-long celebration with an 82-67 win over Indiana on Sunday at XFINITY Center. Oluchi Okananwa posted a career-high 34 points, setting personal bests in back-to-back home games. Her 34 points marked the 12th-highest scoring game in program history.

The Terps (15-1, 3-1 Big Ten) broke away with a 12-0 run to begin the third quarter. Okananwa scored seven of the points during the run. The junior guard shot 12-of-21 from the floor overall with three 3-pointers made. Her career day comes a week after she registered 28 points in Maryland's last home game — a 97-59 win over Wisconsin on Dec. 29. The Terps are now 12-0 at home for the first time since the 2014-15 season.

Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu also made a significant impact by posting her second career double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds on 6-of-7 shooting. She helped Maryland command an advantage on the glass, as her rebounding total marked a new career-high. Ozzy-Momodu also recorded the most rebounds by a Terp this season.

Alongside Okananwa's offense, Maryland's defense proved to be a big catalyst in the victory. It forced 16 turnovers in the first half alone. The defense finished with 21 for the game, with Okananwa (3) and Mir McLean (2) recording multiple steals. The Hoosiers shot an impressive 65% from the floor in the first half but were limited to 38% shooting in the second, as well.

Yarden Garzon (8 points) and Saylor Poffenbarger (7 points, 6 rebounds & 4 rebounds) were other key contributors for Maryland.

Indiana was led by Maya Makalusky's 20 points. The loss drops the Hoosiers' record to 11-5 overall and 0-4 in conference action.
