No. 25 Terps Earn 196.275-195.725 Win Over Illinois On Back Of Aine Reade’s Big Day

Reade tallied a pair of 9.900 event scores in her incredible 39.350 all-around day.

CHAMPAIGN, IL — Aine Reade had an incredible Sunday for the No. 25 Terps, posting a pair of 9.900 scores as Maryland earned a 196.275-195.725 win over Illinois on the road. Maryland moved to 5-1 (2-1 Big Ten) on the season with its second-highest total score of the season.

Maryland got started on the uneven bars, where Reade got her incredible day started with a career-high 9.900 while Madeline Komoroski and Sarah Saville posted identical 9.825 marks as the Terps combined for a 49.075 team score. Logan Buckmon led the way for Maryland on vault, posting a career-high 9.875 mark. Josephine Kogler put up a 9.850 and Katrina Mendez-Abolnik contributed a 9.825 to the Terps' 49.075 team score, giving Maryland a lead midway through the meet.  Reade dazzled again on the floor, posting her second 9.900 of the day and paving the way for a 49.150 team score. Kogler and Taylor Rech both recorded 9.850 marks in the Terps' best event of the afternoon. Maryland wrapped up on the balance beam, where Emily DeFrees led the way with a career-high 9.900 of her own. The Terps ended the day with a 48.975 team score on the beam after Kogler and Megan Bingham posted 9.875 and 9.800 respective scores. Maryland recorded better team scores in three of the four events on Sunday. The Terps earned their second Big Ten win of the season, and will carry momentum into their next meet, at home against Rutgers on Feb. 7. Maryland also got its first chance to compete in Champaign, Illinois, where the Big Ten Tournament will be held at the end of the regular season.
