COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland opens its 2026 home season with a matchup against No. 13 Virginia at SECU Stadium at 12 p.m. The game will air on B1G+.
The Terrapins last faced Virginia a year ago, falling 13–9 at Notre Dame Preparatory School in Baltimore. The game served as Maryland's One Love game. Founded in 2010 to honor the memory of former Virginia women's lacrosse player Yeardley Love, the One Love Foundation is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to educating, empowering, and activating young people to end relationship violence and promote healthy relationships.
Where We've Been
- Maryland opened the season with a road win against No. 13 Syracuse, 9-5 last Friday.
- Sixteen saves from JJ Suriano and a five-goal performance from Lauren LaPointe paved the way as the Terps improved to 18-2 in season openers under Cathy Reese.
- Defense was king for Maryland during the first game. The Terps held the ranked Orange scoreless in the first quarter and grabbed 11 ground balls in the win. Maddy Sterling led the charge, picking up three ground balls as the Suriano and the Terps stood strong. Maryland forced a pair of shot-clock violations in the win.
Maryland earned their first victory of the 2026 season with a road victory at Syracuse.

- JJ Suriano was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and the IWLCA Defensive Player of the Week.
- The junior goalkeeper opened the season with a standout performance against No. 13 Syracuse, posting a .762 save percentage in the Terps' road victory. Suriano held the Orange scoreless in the first quarter and recorded 16 saves on 21 shots faced, allowing just five goals in the win.
- Last season, Suriano started all 21 games last season in her first year in the cage. She was named to the 2025 All-Big Ten Tournament Team and earned 2025 Inside Lacrosse All-American Honorable Mention honors. Suriano posted a 9.61 goals-against average and recorded 180 saves on the season.
