COLLEGE PARK, MD -- No. 3 Maryland women's lacrosse will travel to Washington, D.C., to face Georgetown on Wednesday, followed by a Friday matchup against Saint Joseph's in Philadelphia. Wednesday's first draw is set for 7 p.m. ET, and Friday's game will begin at 2 p.m. ET. Both games will stream live on ESPN+.
 
Where We've Been
  • Maryland will head into its second road trip of the season after starting 2-0. The Terps opened the year with a 9-5 road win against No. 13 Syracuse and earned their first home victory this past weekend, defeating No. 12 Virginia, 17-9.
  • Offensively, the Terps have been led by Kristen Shanahan and Lauren LaPointe, who have 10 and nine points, respectively. Eight Terps have scored through two games, and nine have recorded at least one point.
  • Defensively, 2025 Tewaaraton Watch List member JJ Suriano has started strong in goal to open the year. The junior is 2-0 with 16 total saves, including 14 against ranked opponents No. 13 Syracuse and No. 12 Virginia.

  •  Kristen Shanahan led the way for Maryland this past weekend with a goal and six assists as the Terps improved to 2-0. In her first home game as a Terp, she spread the ball effectively, dishing a career-high six assists in the win. With three in the opening quarter, she recorded Maryland's first three-assist quarter since Eloise Clevenger in 2024 and the program's first six-assist game since Clevenger accomplished the feat in that same contest.
  • Keeley Block also had a stellar home debut, recording three goals and one assist to earn her 29th career multi-goal game and 37th career multi-point game.
  • A Salisbury, Maryland native, Block joins the program after four seasons at Penn. Block earned 2025 Second Team All-Ivy and Second Team IWLCA All-Region honors after starting 19 games and recording 42 goals last season. 
  • Graduate transfer Kristen Shanahan joins the Terps after playing at Notre Dame. A team captain for the Irish in 2025, Shannahan started 14 games and finished second on the team with 27 goals and 41 points.

  • Kori Edmondson, Kayla Gilmore and JJ Suriano were named to the initial Tewaaraton Watch List, as announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation.
  • Edmondson returns to College Park for her final year. Edmondson earned First Team honors and preseason All-American honors by USA Lacrosse and Inside Lacrosse.
  • Edmondson was named the Big Ten Midfielder of the Year last season and was a 2025 Tewaaraton Top 25 finalist. She earned unanimous All-Big Ten First Team honors and led the Terrapins' offense during a standout season. Edmondson tallied 73 points, including 59 goals, and was named Big Ten Midfielder of the Week five times. She concluded the year with All-American honors from USA Lacrosse, the IWLCA, and Inside Lacrosse.
  • Last season, Suriano started all 21 games last season in her first year in the cage. She was named to the 2025 All-Big Ten Tournament Team and earned 2025 Inside Lacrosse All-American Honorable Mention honors. Suriano posted a 9.61 goals-against average and recorded 180 saves on the season.

  • Gilmore enters her sophomore season after being named Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2025. She made an immediate impact for the Terps, recording 14 goals and nine assists, while playing a key role in the draw circle with 93 draw controls. Gilmore earned All-Big Ten Second Team honors, was named to the inaugural All-Freshman Team, and was ranked the No. 7 freshman nationally by Inside Lacrosse.
  • Maryland has won eight of the last 13 Tewaaraton awards, with Megan Taylor becoming the first goalie in lacrosse history to win the award in 2019. Before that, Zoe Stukenberg took home the prestigious award in 2017, Taylor Cummings won three straight from 2014-16 and Katie Schwarzmann became the first two-time winner for Maryland in 2012-13. Caitlyn McFadden started the eight-for-13 streak for Maryland, garnering the award in 2010. Jen Adams won the inaugural Tewaaraton in 2001.
  • In the 19 years of the award, Maryland has won nine times, the most of any school and has had 26 finalists, including at least one in 16-of-17 seasons under head coach Cathy Reese. Most recently, Aurora Cordingley was named a finalist in 2022, where she totaled 118 points (67 goals, 51 assists).

  • With four goals in the 2026 season home opener, Kori Edmondson moved into a tie for 43rd place on Maryland women's lacrosse's all-time career points list.
  • Edmondson recorded her 100th career goal against No. 3 Northwestern last season.

  • Offensively, Anne McGovern leads the way for the Hoyas, leading the team in goals with 8. Lauren Steer is the top feeder for the Hoyas offense with 3 assists. 
  • In goal, Leah Warehime anchors the Georgetown defense. This season she has a 6.67 GAA and a .538 save percentage.
  • The Terps are 28-4 in the all-time head-to-head series against the Hoyas.
  • Saint Joseph's will host the Terps in Philadelphia after starting the season 1-1 with a road win over Lehigh but falling to Temple. 
  • Offensively, Megan Sanelli leads the way for the Hawks, leading the team in goals with 6. Kate Fuhrman is the top feeder for the Hawks offense with 4 assists.

  • Head Coach Cathy Reese is in her 20th season at the helm of Maryland women's lacrosse. The winningest coach in program history, Reese is 348-53 (.868) as head coach and has led the Terps to five National Championships, 12 Final Fours, and 22 Conference Championships.
  • Reese is the fifth all-time winningest active head coach and the sixth-winningest coach of all-time in Division 1 women's lacrosse at 378-82 (.822). Former Maryland head coach Cindy Timchal is the all-time winningest women's lacrosse coach with 580 wins.
  • Reese has the highest winning percentage of any current Maryland head coach as a Terrapin head coach.

The Terps have won 82.9-percent of their games all time, also the highest winning percentage of all-time. With a win against No.8 Johns Hopkins, 13-11, in its regular season finale on Saturday. This was Maryland's 800th program win, the most by any women's college lacrosse program.
