COLLEGE PARK, MD - The University of Maryland softball team travels to Charlottesville for the Mizuno Classic and Lynchburg for the Liberty Softball Classic. The action kicks off Feb 19 with a doubleheader against No. 21 ranked Virginia starting at 1:30 p.m. The Terps then travel to Lynchburg, Va. on Feb. 21 to play Toledo and Liberty starting at 10a.m.

  • Maryland will host the 2026 Big Ten Softball Tournament at the Maryland Softball Stadium, May 6-9. This will be the first year College Park will host the Big Ten Softball Tournament. Maryland's last win in the Tournament was in 2024, where the No. 10 ranked Terrapins upset No. 7 Penn State, 3-1 in nine innings.
  • In head coach Lauren Karn's first two years leading the Terps, she compiled a 42-61 overall record while coaching two All-Big Ten selections and earning three victories over Top-25 opponents.
  • The Terps played the Purple-Gold Classic this past weekend. They went 3-2 through the weekend picking up wins against Buffalo and ECU.
  • Zayda Rocke recorded her first two career home runs this past weekend. Anna McGowan recorded her first home run as a Terp and finished with a team best six hits and four RBIs.
  • Sammi Woods recorded five hits, two RBIs, and four runs. Sage Rodmyre had four hits, three RBI and two runs
  • Elisea Wiegand picked up her first career shutout win in the circle. She finished with a 0.50 ERA and 15 strikeouts through the weekend.
  • Virginia is ranked #21 in this weeks NFCA coaches poll. Last time these two teams met, the Cavaliers pulled away with a 4-3 win. 
  • Delaware finished the 2025 season 38-16 and 23-4 in conference play. Maryland has a perfect 7-0 record against the Blue Hens on the road.
  • Maryland played in the Liberty Softball Classic in 2023, winning all four games of the tournament. The Terps picked up wins against Fairfield, Ball State, and Sacred Heart.
  • The Terps have played Toledo once in their history, in 1995 where the Rockets pulled away with a 9-0 win.
  • Maryland is 1-3 all-time against Liberty. These teams last met in Orlando, Florida, the Flames won 9-0.

  • The Terps went 3-2 in Greenville, North Carolina. This is Maryland's best start in the first ten games since 2023 when they went 8-2.
  • Elisea Wiegand picked up her first-career shutout win in the circle against Buffalo (2/14). She finished the weekend with a 0.50 ERA, recording 15 strikeouts.
  • Freshman Zayda Rocke recorded her first two career home runs. Anna McGowan added her first home run as a Terp
  • Sage Rodmyre got her first four hits as a Terp, helping Maryland pick up wins against Buffalo and ECU (2/14). Bailey Ullman recorded her first-career hit.

B1G players to watch
  • Kiera Bucher, Sammi Woods, and Bailey Murphy were named to the Big Ten Players to Watch List for 2026.
  • Bucher returns to College Park for her senior season in the circle. Last season, she made 19 appearances pitching 63.2 innings recording 33 strikeouts. She holds the all-time Maryland softball record of saves (12).
  • Murphy led the Terps last season with a .326 average with two doubles, one triple, and eight RBI. She had the fifth most hits on the team (30).
  • Woods returns at shortstop for the Terps. She finished with a team fourth best .294 average, hitting nine doubles and three homeruns. She picked up her 100th career hit against Nebraska (5/4).

  • The Terps welcome five freshmen to College Park: Zayda Rocke, Bailey Ullman, Kate Stephens, Elisea Wiegand, and Sage Rodmyre.
  • Stephens enters Maryland with an impressive list of accolades: 4x First Team All-League, 4x First Team All-District, 4x All-Region, and she set the single season record for home runs at Stoney Creek in 2025.
  • Rodmyre was dominant at Fort Myers High School, earning Offensive Player of the Year honors (2022), Defensive Player of the Year honors (2023), and All-State and First Team All-Area recognition (2024).
