No. 14 Terps Cruise Past Purdue, 99-66, On Senior Day

Maryland honored its seniors as the Terps donned their new Script Shift uniforms.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — No. 14 Maryland grabbed its fifth straight victory with a 99-66 win over Purdue on Senior Day at XFINITY Center. The Terps (22-6, 10-6 Big Ten) donned their new Script Shift uniforms as they jumped ahead of the Boilermakers (12-15, 4-12 Big Ten) and cruised to their 22nd win of the season in front of 9,032 fans. Oluchi Okananwa continued her marvelous Big Ten season with a 26-point, five-rebound performance to grab her sixth straight double-figure game. She's scored 20+ points a stunning 11 times this season and helped Maryland move to 14-4 at home this season.   Saylor Poffenbarger had a strong Senior Day with 11 points and nine rebounds. She hit a pair of three-pointers as she, Mir McLean, and Yarden Garzon combined for 28 points and 13 rebounds on their Senior Day. McLean grabbed 11 points while Garzon extended her Big Ten-leading three-point total to 81, which is tied for sixth all-time in Maryland single-season history.  Kyndal Walker had a huge day off the bench with a career-high 18 points and three steals in the emphatic win. She scored nine of Maryland's 22 first-quarter points that ensured the Terps never trailed on Sunday. Maryland scored 51 points in the first half, marking its highest first-half total in a Big Ten game since 2022. Addi Mack scored in double figures for the 17th time in her freshman season with 14 points as one of six Terps to record double-digit scoring on Sunday. Rainey Welson (11 points) hit a trio of three-pointers in her fourth double-figure game of the year. The Terps wrap up their home regular season slate against Northwestern on Feb. 25.  How it Happened:
1st Quarter:
  • McLean knocked down a jumper on the game's opening possession to get Sunday's scoring started. 
  • Okananwa rolled in an acrobatic layup for her first points of the day. 
  • Back-to-back Terp buckets put them up 8-2 in the first two minutes.
  • Okananwa scored eight of the Terps' first 12 points in the first five minutes of play.
  • Walker nailed a three to put Maryland up 18-14 seven minutes into the game. 
  • Walker and Okananwa netted nine first-quarter points as Maryland took a 22-17 lead into the second quarter. 
2nd Quarter:
  • Okananwa reached double figures as she opened the second-quarter scoring. 
  • Poffenbarger nailed a three to go up 27-19 two minutes in.
  • A McLean jumper built a 10-point lead. 
  • Mack got on the board with a three-point play midway through the quarter.
  • Welson put Maryland up 37-24 with a three-pointer.
  • Poffenbarger hit her second three as Maryland claimed a 40-27 advantage. 
  • Poffenbarger reached double figures with a three-point play in the closing moments.
  • Okananwa drilled a three-pointer as the Terps took a 51-32 lead into the half.
3rd Quarter:
  • Mack opened Maryland's scoring with a three-pointer. 
  • Okananwa rolled a pair of layups in the first two minutes. 
  • Garzon drilled a three midway through the quarter. 
  • Okananwa surpassed the 20-point mark in the third frame. 
  • Mack reached double figures with a three-pointer with a minute to go.
  • The Terps took a 77-48 lead into the final frame. 
4th Quarter:
  • Walker reached her career high in points in the opening minute. 
  • McLean became the fifth Terp in double figures as Maryland went up 82-50.
  • Garzon's second three extended her Big Ten-leading season total to 81.
  • An Okananwa three-pointer gave Maryland its 10th three of the day. 
  • Welson's second three put the Terps up 92-60 with three minutes to play.
  • Welson became the sixth Terp in double figures with her third three.
  • Maryland cloased out the 99-66 win.
Double-Digit Days:
  • Okananwa (26 points) scored in double figures for the 24th time this season and the 60th time in her career.
  • Walker (18 points) scored 10+ points for the fifth time in her redshirt freshman year.
  • Mack (14 points) scored in double figures for the 17th time in her freshman season.
  • Welson (11 points) recorded her fourth-career game with 10+ points.
  • Poffenbarger (11 points) tallied her 13th double-digit game of the season and her 52nd of her career.
  • McLean (11 points) marked her 28th-career game in double figures and her fourth of the season.
Senior Sendoff:
  • Maryland honored its three seniors — Garzon, McLean, and Poffenbarger — pregame.
  • The Terps also recognized its senior managers, scout team, and their Team Impact Teammate, Sophie Rupolo.
  • Maryland honored its senior cheerleaders, band members, and dance team members during timeouts.
Script Shirt Unis Debut:
  • The original Under Armour school, the University of Maryland, debuted exclusive limited-edition uniforms on Saturday against Purdue. Maryland has been at the forefront with revolutionary cutting-edge uniforms since joining forces with Under Armour in the early 2000s. The relationship began when UA founder and CEO Kevin Plank played football, served as a special teams captain for the Terrapins and graduated from the university in 1996. 
  • These state-of-the-art uniforms feature an icy white base with iridescent numbers and Maryland spelled out across the chest. The Under Armour and Big Ten logos will match those elements on the jersey, while the shorts feature the Maryland M-Bar logo in the iridescent-blend as well.
  • Maryland fans can rock new Script Shift gear from Under Armour.
Gucci Lucci:
  • Okananwa added a 26-point, five performance to her impressive debut season in the Big Ten.
  • In 16 conference games this season, Okananwa's averaging 19.4 points per game.
  • She ranks in the top 10 in the Big Ten this season in points, field goals, offensive rebounds, and steals.
Punishing Purdue:
  • Sunday's contest marked the 21st all-time meeting between Maryland and Purdue, with the Terps winning 18 of the previous games.
  • Maryland improved to 7-1 all-time against the Boilermakers at XFINITY Center.
  • The Terps have won 10 straight over Purdue.
Home Cooking:
  • Maryland moved to 634-150 (.808) all-time in College Park, dating back to the inaugural 1971-1972 season.
  • The Terps are 340-55 (.860) at home under Frese, whose first season at Maryland was the inaugural year of XFINITY Center.
