Maryland excelled on floor as the Terps faced four ranked teams
LOS ANGELES, CA — The No. 25 Terps posted a 195.025 overall score on Friday night as they faced No. 5 UCLA, No. 18 Iowa, and No. 19 Ohio State in the Big Four Meet. Katrina Mendez-Abolnik, Aine Reade and Maddie Komoroski led the Terps on their respective events.
Maryland got its night started on the vault, where a 9.850 from Mendez-Abolnik and a 9.775 from Reade earned the Terps a 48.775 team mark. Mendez-Abolnik matched her 9.850 mark for the fifth time this season.
The Terps moved over to the bars in the second rotation, where they posted a 48.575 team score. Gianna Ruffing dazzled with a 9.775 mark while Komoroski posted a solid 9.750 tally to wrap up the first half of the night.
Maryland's third rotation on the beam featured impressive nights from Komoroski and Emily Defrees, who earned respective 9.850 and 9.775 individual scores as the Big Four Meet rolled on.
The Terps closed the night out on floor, where Reade led the way with a 9.850 score. Josephine Kogler pitched in a 9.825 mark of her own as Maryland wrapped its time in Los Angeles up with a 49.00 team score.
UCLA won the night with its 196.950 overall night to move to 13-2 (9-0 Big Ten) on the season. Iowa (9-5, 6-3 Big Ten) took 2nd with its 196.475 score while Ohio State claimed 3rd with a 196.425 score to move to 4-6 on the season and 4-5 in Big Ten competition. Maryland is back in action in the Temple Quad Meet next weekend in Philadelphia.
