INDIANAPOLIS, IN -
Tolu Akinduro headlined day three of the Big Ten Championships at the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion for the Maryland Terrapins, setting a new school record in the triple jump and scoring eight points for the team with a second-place overall finish in the event. With the second-place finish, Akinduro earned All-Big Ten Second Team honors.
Akinduro broke a 24-year-old school record in the event, previously held by Marchelle Payne, en route to a second-place overall finish in the triple jump at the Big Ten Championships.The senior also moved past Olympian Thea LaFond for second place on the program's all-time list.
Valmon secured a fourth place overall finish in the 400 meter final at a clip of 52.86 seconds.
In the 3000 meters, Eva Rogers placed 22nd. In the triple jump Payton Jones finished in 27th place to round out the individual competitors on the final day.
The day was finished out by the 4x400 relay team of Ka'Nai Bey, Maya Mosley, Taylor Riley and Maya Valmon who finished the event at a time of 3:38.84 to place eighth overall and set a new fifth all-time program mark.
Overall Maryland finished 14 out of 18 teams earning a total of 14 points at the championship meet.
The Maryland Terrapins will return to action to start the outdoor season next Friday March, 6th at the Long Beach opener in California.
