Maryland Baseball Opens Big Ten Play Against Purdue This Weekend

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The Maryland Terrapins (10-6) return to Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium this weekend to open Big Ten play, hosting the Purdue Boilermakers (10-5) for a three-game series. Maryland has historically held the edge in the matchup, owning a 14-5 all-time record against Purdue. The two teams last met during the 2023 season, when the Terps captured the series, 2-1. First pitch for the series opener is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. The series continues Saturday at 2 p.m. and concludes Sunday at 1 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here.   • Maryland moved to 10-6 after a Tuesday encounter against the West Virginia Mountaineers. 
  • The Terps have won seven out of their last nine games and are coming off a series win at Troy that saw the Terps pull off a gritty comeback win vs. the Trojans on Sunday.
  • Tuesday was filled with "firsts" as Franklin Pichardo Jr. hit his first career home run while Nate Hawton-Henley knocked his first career hit.

  • The Terps have accumulated 52 hits, 40 runs, 20 XBHs, nine home runs and 37 RBI in their first five games in March.
  • Rylen Stockton hit two home runs and recorded five hits over the weekend. He has the second highest OPS (1.128) and batting average (.340) on the team. 
  • Jordan Crosland has been coming up clutch lately. In his past eight games he has hit a walk-off RBI and a ninth-inning two-run shot.
  • The Terps now have seven players with double digit hits and RBI.

  • Logan Hastings has been brilliant on the mound to open the 2026 season. Hastings tossed 10.1 innings before allowing his first hit of the season.
  • On the season, Hastings holds a team-best 0.96 ERA, 1-0 record, two saves and 18.2 innings over four appearances.
  • Hastings is holding batters to a .156 batting average and a 0.70 WHIP.
  • The Maryland native became the first Terp with eight or more strikeouts in a relief appearance since Nate Haberthier on March 12, 2023 vs. Maine. Hastings had eight strikeouts in 3.0 innings pitched.
  • The sophomore ranks fourth in the Big Ten in ERA.
  • Hastings was named to the National Pitcher of the Year watch list

  • Ryan Costello was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week (3/9) after the Terps' 3-1 week. In the series clinching win on Sunday at Troy, Costello clubbed two home runs including a go-ahead shot in the ninth inning to put the Terps in front.
  • Costello leads all freshman in the nation in home runs with nine and ranks 11th in the nation among all players.
  • The Howell, NJ native also ranks 18th in the nation in RBI with 27.
  • Costello leads the team in home runs (nine), total bases (51), slugging percentage (.773), RBI (27) and OPS (1.203).
Marvelous martin
  • Martin's 28 hits ranks 17th in the nation and his .431 batting average ranks 45th.
  • Across the Terps' last nine games, Martin has gotten on-base three or more times in seven of those games. In those nine games, Martin is hitting for a .500 average and .633 OBP with 17 hits and 12 walks.
  • Martin is currently on a 46-game on-base game streak.
  • His three-hit game on Sunday marked his fifth game this season with three or more hits.
  • He also leads the teams in stolen bases with eight and has a 100% success rate.
