Russell Clobbers Three-Run Homer in 7-5 Midweek Loss to Richmond

Maryland faced nine different pitchers in Tuesday’s contest.

Box Score RICHMOND, VA — Maryland fell short in a 7-5 midweek loss on the road against Richmond on Tuesday afternoon. Devin Russell hit a three-run homer, but the Spiders used nine pitchers to outlast the Terps and drop them to 11-9 (1-2 Big Ten) in 2026.

Rylen Stockton opened the scoring with a sacrifice-fly in the top of the first after Brayden Martin walked to extend his on-base streak to 50 games. Richmond responded with a three-run second inning to take its first lead of the afternoon. 

Russell launched his first homer of the season out to left field in the top of the sixth inning to give Maryland a 4-3 lead. His three-RBI shot highlighted a four-run sixth inning that also featured a Ryan Costello RBI knock. The Spiders rallied with a four-run sixth of their own to move to 11-10 in 2026. Andrew Koshy did his job on the mound to keep the Terps in the game late. He allowed just one hit across his 2.1 innings of work and fanned three of the final four batters he faced on Tuesday. Maryland is back in action this weekend with a three-game series against No. 1 UCLA starting on Mar. 20. How it Happened:
