Matti Benson’s Grand Slam Lifts Terps Past George Washington 11-7 In 10 Innings

Benson recorded four hits and drove in seven runs in the Wednesday win.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — Matti Benson's 10th-inning grand slam gifted Maryland an 11-7 walkoff win over George Washington on Wednesday night. Her blast marked her second homer of the game, her fourth hit of the night, pushed her nightly RBI total up to seven, and moved the Terps to 13-14 in 2026. Benson had a huge day on offense for the Terps, roping her third homer of the season in the fifth inning, driving in an RBI with a single in the third, and plating the game-tying run with a fielder's choice in the bottom of the seventh. She recorded her third multi-RBI game of the season and raised her season RBI total to 16, which is the fourth-highest mark on the team. Her seven RBIs tie the program's single-game record and were the most in a game since 2007. Mariah Penta's third hit of the night tied the game at 6-6 in the eighth inning and delivered a sac-fly in the 10th to extend the game. She recorded her second three-hit night of the season as the Terps outhit George Washington 16-8.

Elisea Wiegand got the start in the circle for the Terps. She collected five strikeouts across her four innings of work, relenting a quartet of runs across her 66 pitches. Aubrey Wurst took over the pitching duties in the fifth and allowed two runs on four hits across her four innings of work.

Bailey Murphy also tallied three hits, including one in the bottom of the 10th inning to extend the frame. Sammi Woods and Logan Turner each recorded multi-hit games as Maryland collected eight hits with runners on base.
