CLEVELAND, OH – Branson John of the Maryland wrestling team became the 22nd All-American in program history and the second since 2019 at the 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships.
John placed eighth after falling to No. 27 Gabe Arnold (Iowa), 6-2, in a decision.
As a team, Maryland finished 33rd overall with 8.5 points.
A true sophomore, John battled through the consolation bracket to reach the blood round and secure his first NCAA All-American honor in his second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships. After dropping his opening match on Day One, he responded with an impressive run, beginning with a 5-0 decision over No. 32 Blake Schaffer (Kent State). He followed with an 11-4 decision against No. 2 Rocky Elam (Iowa State), then added a 4-1 win over No. 10 Mac Stout (Pittsburgh).
John clinched All-American status with a 5-1 tiebreaker victory over No. 29 Colton Hawks (Arizona State) before ultimately finishing eighth.
