Maryland All-American Laura Merrifield Announces Retirement

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Former Maryland women's lacrosse standout Laura Merrifield has announced her retirement from competitive lacrosse, closing the chapter on a distinguished career at both the collegiate and international levels.

Merrifield leaves behind a legacy as one of the most impactful midfielders in Maryland history. Over the course of 80 career games, she recorded 128 goals and 14 assists for 142 points, while also contributing 67 draw controls, 56 ground balls, and 42 caused turnovers. Known for her versatility and scoring ability, she was a consistent two-way presence throughout her career.

Her senior season marked the pinnacle of her collegiate success. Merrifield earned IWLCA First Team All-American honors, All-ACC recognition, and was named ACC Championship MVP following a five-goal performance against North Carolina. She finished the season with 45 goals, ranking third on the team, and was also selected to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List.

Beyond her collegiate accomplishments, Merrifield built an extensive international résumé. A three-time senior World Cup representative, she earned All-World Team honors twice and helped secure a bronze medal in Guildford in 2017. She also competed in the 2007 U19 World Cup, earning bronze before going on to play at Maryland, where she was part of the program's 2010 national championship team.

Widely regarded as one of the game's premier midfielders, Merrifield's career spanned more than a decade at the highest levels of competition, leaving a lasting impact on the sport.
