Terps Bested By Hoosiers’ Bats In 11-3 Loss

Maryland honored the legacy of Bob “Turtle” Smith with commemorative hats and baseball cards on Friday night.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — Indiana hit five homers in the Hoosiers' 11-3 win over Maryland at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium on Friday night. A six-run sixth inning was the dagger as the Terps dropped to 15-19 (2-11 Big Ten) in 2026.

Maryland's first hit of the night exploded off the bat of Rylen Stockton and cleared the fence in center for his seventh homer of 2026. The Terps collected seven hits in the loss to the Hoosiers. Paul Jones II clobbered his fourth homer of the season in the seventh inning to mark his 35th hit of the season, which is good for fourth on the team despite having fewer at-bats than the three sluggers ahead of him.  Jordan Crosland recorded a three-hit night atop the Terps' lineup. He collected his 28th RBI of the season in Maryland's two-run seventh inning, which gave him the second-highest total on the team. Brayden Martin extended his on-base streak to 64 games by getting hit by a pitch in the frame. Maryland honored the legacy of Bob "Turtle" Smith on Friday with commemorative hats and baseball cards at the game. Smith was a standout Terp on the diamond during his time at UMD and a member of the Terrapin Club for over 50 years.  In 2007, Smith and his wife established the first-ever full Maryland baseball scholarship endowment, paving the way for future generations of student-athletes to succeed both on the field and in the classroom.

Maryland's baseball stadium was re-dedicated as Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium in 2010 after a large donation — part of over $3 million donated by the Smith family — to cement his legacy with the program. Smith passed away last July, and the Terps donned throwback hats against the Hoosiers to honor him, as well as invited family members to throw out Friday's first pitch. How it Happened:
  • T1: Indiana homered on the game's first pitch to take a 1-0 lead.
  • T2: IU used a three-hit frame to push its second run across.
  • B2: Stockton's seventh homer of the year got the Terps on the board.
  • B3: Crosland doubled to open the frame.
  • T4: A solo shot extended IU's lead to 3-1.
  • T5: Maryland rolled a double play to cap a scoreless frame.
  • T6: IU extended the lead with another solo homer.
  • T6: The Hoosiers took a 5-0 lead with a wild pitch.
  • T6: Indiana blew the game open with a three-run homer.
  • T6: The Hoosiers' third homer of the inning made it 9-1.
  • T7: James Gladden threw a scoreless frame in his first inning of relief.
  • B7: Jones II's homer brought Maryland a run closer.
  • B7: Crosland singled in the Terps' third run.
  • T9: IU plated two to take an 11-3 lead.
