Solomon Washington Set For Prestigious Portsmouth Invitational Tournament

COLLEGE PARK, MD – After concluding his senior campaign with the Maryland men's basketball team, Solomon Washington has been selected to take part in the 72nd Annual Portsmouth Invitational Tournament beginning Thursday, April 16.
The national event brings together the country's top college seniors to compete in front of professional scouts, agents, and fans. The P.I.T. is sponsored by the NBA kicking off the draft process each year. Notable NBA players who are P.I.T. alumni include Rick Barry, Jimmy Butler, Tim Hardaway, Jeremy Lin, Dan Majerle, Earl "The Pearl" Monroe, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, and John Stockton.
The P.I.T. has invited 64 players to compete in the four-day event every year since 1953. The players are broken up into eight teams with 12 games being played over the four days. Washington will begin playing on Thursday, April 16, at 8 PM.
Last season, Julian Reese earned All-PIT honors after taking part in the event after a standout career with the Terps.
This past season, Washington finished the year as the Terps top rebounder averaging 9.2 boards per game to go alongside a 9.8 point per game scoring average. After missing the first eight games of the season due to injury, he started 22 of 25 games played. He led the Terps with six double-doubles. He reached double-digit rebounds 11 times during the year including a season-high 14 at Northwestern and against Washington.
For his career between Maryland and Texas A&M, Washington played in 122 career games (69 starts) averaging 6.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He averaged over 22 minutes per game as a sophomore and junior at Texas A&M. In four years, Washington posted 744 career points overall, 676 rebounds, 112 blocks, 96 steals, and 88 assists.
