Mendez left the yard in the top of the first inning to give the Terps an early 3-0 lead. The blast marked Maryland's first hit of the day, Mendez's seventh homer of the season, and extended his hitting streak to 16 straight games.
An inning later, Russell roped a three-run shot of his own out to left field to extend the Terps' lead to 6-0. Russell's fifth homer of the season marked his third in his last six games as Michigan State was forced to go to its bullpen.395 feet for his 7th XBH in his last 7 games!
