
Six Terps Collect IWLCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region

NORTHBOROUGH, MA -- Six members of the No. 3 Maryland women's lacrosse team earned IWLCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region honors, the organization announced Thursday. Honorees included Kori Edmondson, Lauren LaPointe, JJ Suriano, Kayla Gilmore, Kristen Shanahan and Maddy Sterling.
The IWLCA recognized 128 Division I student-athletes with selections to the 2026 All-Region teams. Those honorees are now eligible for selection to the national IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced May 21.
Edmondson, Sterling, LaPointe and Suriano earned First Team honors, while Shanahan and Gilmore received Second Team recognition.
Edmondson earned IWLCA Mid-Atlantic First Team honors for the second consecutive season. She also received First Team All-American honors from USA Lacrosse for the second straight year and unanimous All-Big Ten First Team recognition for a second consecutive season. The senior has made an impact across the field, ranking third on the team with 59 points on 46 goals and 13 assists while placing second with 71 draw controls. Edmondson was named a Tewaaraton Top 25 finalist and earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Tournament Team. She was selected fourth overall in the first round of the professional draft by the New York Charging. Edmondson will conclude her career in College Park as one of the most decorated players in program history. The No. 1 recruit in the 2022 class, she chose to stay home and developed into one of the premier players to wear a Maryland uniform. She currently ranks 27th in program history with 217 career points.
Suriano turned in an impressive junior season, earning Big Ten Goaltender of the Year honors and becoming the seventh Terrapin to win the award since Maryland joined the conference. She currently leads the Big Ten in saves per game (9.73), total saves (207) and save percentage (.519), while ranking first nationally in total saves. Suriano also earned All-Big Ten First Team honors and was named a Tewaaraton Top 25 finalist.
LaPointe earned IWLCA Mid-Atlantic First Team honors for the first time in her career. She also received Third Team USA Lacrosse honors for the first time. The junior earned unanimous All-Big Ten First Team recognition after an outstanding season leading Maryland's offense. She leads the team with 85 points and 61 goals, doubling her goal total from last season. LaPointe was named both IWLCA and Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and earned Midseason All-America honors from Inside Lacrosse. Against No. 7 Johns Hopkins, she delivered a career-best performance with seven goals and 10 points in a 15–12 road victory. She has recorded at least four points in 15 of Maryland's 20 games this season.
Sterling earned IWLCA Mid-Atlantic First Team honors and USA Lacrosse All-American Honorable Mention recognition for the first time in her career. A cornerstone of Maryland's defense, she leads the team with 16 caused turnovers and ranks second with 24 ground balls. Sterling has consistently matched up against and limited some of the nation's top offensive players. She earned All-Big Ten First Team honors and was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team. In the Big Ten championship game against Northwestern, Sterling held conference leading scorer Madison Taylor to just one goal, her fewest in a game this season. Sterling was selected by the Maryland Charm with the 11th overall pick in the third round of the professional draft.
Gilmore earned IWLCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region honors for the first time in her career. She also earned Third Team USA Lacrosse honors and received All-American recognition from USA Lacrosse for the second consecutive season after being named an honorable mention selection as a freshman. The sophomore earned All-Big Ten First Team honors for the first time in her career. Gilmore leads the team with 112 draw controls and ranks fifth with 31 ground balls while adding 15 points this season.
Shanahan earned IWLCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region honors for the first time in her career and made an immediate impact during her first season with the Terrapins. Her four goals against Georgetown helped Maryland erase a four-goal deficit. In her first home game at Maryland, Shanahan recorded a career-high six assists. With three assists in the opening quarter, she posted the program's first three-assist quarter since Eloise Clevenger in 2024 and the first six-assist game since Clevenger accomplished the feat in the same contest. Shanahan finished her final collegiate season with career highs in points (72), goals (38), and assists (34).
Maryland hosts Navy in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Thursday, May 14, at SECU Stadium in College Park. The Terps and Midshipmen are set to face off at 5 p.m. on ESPNU. Maryland advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals with an 11–8 win over Rutgers on Sunday, May 10.
Former Maryland Hall of Fame head coach Cindy Timchal returns to College Park for the first time since 2020. Timchal was named National Coach of the Year in 1999 and earned ACC Coach of the Year honors four times during her tenure at Maryland, where she led the Terrapins to eight NCAA championships.
