The Terps earned their first win over an SEC opponent since 2019 on Wednesday evening.

NASHVILLE, TN — Maryland wrapped up the Big Ten-SEC Challenge with a thrilling four-set win (24-26, 30-28, 25-20, 25-18) on Wednesday evening. Four Terps logged double-digit kills as Maryland (2-1) downed an SEC opponent for the first time since 2019. Haley Melby (18 kills), Ava Brown (14 kills), Sydney Bryant (14 kills), and Eva Rohrbach (10 kills) all had strong offensive nights while Duru Gökçen tallied eight stellar blocks.

Arkansas rallied to claim a back-and-forth first set despite five kills from Melby and a pair of kills from the Terps. Maryland flipped the script in the second set, rallying from multiple deficits in a set that featured 17 ties. The Terps eventually outlasted Arkansas with a pair of huge blocks, two of Maryland's nine on the night.

The Terps again hung around for most of the third set and got hot late, ending the frame on a 5-0 run to claim a 25-20 set win. Raina Chwialkowski delivered two huge aces late in the set as Maryland moved a set away from a neutral-site win.

The fourth set was the first time a team jumped ahead and held a lead as Maryland started strong and dominated the Razorbacks en route to a 25-18 match-clinching set. The Terps won their first neutral-site match for the sixth time since 2019. Maryland will host the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in its home opener on Sept. 6.

How it Happened:
1st Set:

Elayna Davidson delivered an ace as Maryland opened an early lead.
Three straight kills from Melby, Bryant, and Rohrbach gave the Terps a 7-4 advantage.
Maryland led 15-11 at the media timeout.
An ace from Sara Toth extended the lead to 18-14.
Kills from Gökçen delivered Maryland's 19th and 20th points of the set.
Arkansas used a 6-1 run to claim a late lead.
The Razorbacks outlasted Maryland, 26-24.

2nd Set:

Arkansas opened the set with an ace and worked out to a 6-4 lead.
Bryant, Gökçen, and Rohrbach collected early kills.
Gökçen and Brown teamed up for a block as Maryland evened the set at 15-15.
Big kills from Brown and Melby tied the set at both 17-17 and 18-18.
Maryland used a 3-1 run to claim a 22-21 lead and force an Arkansas timeout.
Back-to-back kills from Melby gave the Terps a 24-23 advantage.
Maryland and Arkansas traded points to a 28-28 tie before Gökçen and Brown combined for back-to-back kills, giving the Terps a 30-28 set win.

3rd Set:

Brown recorded three early kills as Maryland stormed out to a 5-2 lead.
Arkansas tied the set at 5-5 with an ace.
Gökçen's sixth kill of the match tied the set at 9-9.
Bryant picked up back-to-back kills and Melby recorded an ace in a 5-0 run that put the Terps ahead, 17-14
Arkansas reclaimed the lead with a 4-0 run.
A huge ace from Chwialkowski tied the set at 22-22.
Another ace from Chwialkowski put the Terps a point away from winning the frame.
Maryland finished the set on a 5-0 run to take it, 25-22.

4th Set:

Brown's 11th kill opened the set.
An early 4-0 run gave the Terps a 5-2 lead.
Maryland held a strong 15-9 advantage at the media break.
The Terps hit a stellar .472 in the fourth set.
Maryland won the match with a 25-18 set win.
