The Terps earned their seventh home-opening sweep since 2015.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — Maryland faced the University of Maryland Eastern Shore for the first time ever on Sunday, and the Terps came away with a three-set victory (25-15, 25-16, 25-16) in their home opener. Maryland (3-1) secured its best start to a season since 2023 with its seventh sweep in a home opener since 2015.

Four aces in the initial frame paved the way to a dominant 25-15 set win to open the match. Maryland finished the day with a season-high seven aces. Raina Chwialkowski had two aces in the first set while Duru Gökçen tallied a team-high four kills as the Terps took early control.

The Terps cruised out to an 8-0 lead in the second set and kept their foot on the gas to secure a 25-16 set victory. Haley Melby and Sydney Bryant both finished with a team-high nine kills while Ava Brown pitched in eight of her own.

The third set felt like the tightest of the three, but Maryland capped the day with another 25-16 set win. The Terps are unbeaten in their last 11 home openers, excluding the 2020 COVID-shortened season. Maryland is back in action on Monday against George Mason.

How it Happened:
1st Set:

Bryant opened the set with a kill.
Gökçen collected two early kills.
Raina Chwialkowski delivered two aces during a 7-0 run that gave Maryland a 9-4 lead.
An ace from Melby extended the lead to 13-8.
Maryland led 15-10 at the media timeout.
Another ace from Brooklynne Brass put Maryland ahead, 20-12.
The Terps captured a 25-15 set win.

2nd Set:

Maryland jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead. Melby tallied her second ace during the run.
A timely Melby kill gave the Terps a 13-7 advantage.
Elayna Davidson delivered an ace during another 4-0 run that extended the Maryland lead to 19-9.
The Terps closed out a 25-16 set win.

3rd Set:

Maryland worked its way to an early 8-4 lead.
A kill from Brown put the Terps extended the lead to 12-8.
Melby delivered a kill to give Maryland a 15-12 lead at the media break.
A Bryant kill extended the lead to 19-13 as Maryland pulled ahead.
The Terps ended the day with a 25-16 set win.
