COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The University of Maryland volleyball team hosts Maryland Eastern Shore and George Mason on Sunday and Monday, with both matches slated for first serve at 1 p.m. Both matches will stream live on Big Ten Plus.

Strong start

The Terps are coming off a trip to Nashville for the Big Ten/SEC Challenge, where Maryland faced Vanderbilt and Arkansas in consecutive matches.
Maryland opened the Big Ten/SEC Challenge with a 3-0 loss to Vanderbilt on Tuesday night. The Terps turned the page Wednesday evening, earning a 3-1 victory over Arkansas to close out the Nashville trip.
The Terps rallied Wednesday night to defeat Arkansas, 3-1, earning their first victory over an SEC opponent since 2019. Maryland dropped the opening set before taking the next three to secure the four-set victory.
Four Terps recorded double-digit kills in Maryland's victory over Arkansas, led by Haley Melby with 18 kills. Ava Brown and Sydney Bryant each added 14 kills, while Eva Rohrbach contributed 10 kills, giving Maryland a balanced offensive attack throughout the match.
Duru Gökçen turned in a standout performance at the net against Arkansas, recording a team-high eight blocks to help anchor Maryland's defensive effort.
Wednesday's victory marked Maryland's first neutral-site win and its first victory over an SEC opponent since 2019. The Terps have now earned a neutral-site victory in six seasons since 2019 and will look to carry the momentum from Nashville into their upcoming home matches.
Hughes added one transfer during the offseason in Sara Toth, a setter from Georgia Tech. Toth made an immediate impact Wednesday against Arkansas, recording 55 assists in Maryland's 3-1 victory.
With a blend of returning talent, transfer additions and a highly touted freshman class, Maryland will look to build on its foundation and raise the program's standards in 2026.

Maryland returns Duru Gökçen, who led the Terps with 127 blocks in 2025 and was a key contributor to the team's defensive effort.
Middle blocker Eva Rohrbach returns for her senior season after ranking second on the team with 119 blocks in 2025, helping anchor the Terps' defense.
Haley Melby returns for her graduate season after leading Maryland offensively with 207 kills in 2025.
Sydney Bryant returns for her senior season after recording 140 kills and averaging 1.92 kills per set in 2025, providing another experienced offensive option for the Terps.

freshmen ready to make an impact

Six incoming freshmen, Brooklynne Brass, Marlee Sivak, Ioanna Dimitriou, Elayna Davidson, Ava Brown and Raina Chwialkowski make up the No. 16-ranked freshman class in the nation, according to Prep Dig.
Brooklynne Brass recorded 15 digs in three sets against Arkansas.
Raina Chwialkowski led the Terps with 24 digs while playing all four sets.
Ava Brown recorded 14 kills on 30 total attacks against Arkansas.
The class is Maryland's second-highest-ranked incoming group in program history and the highest-ranked class of the Hughes era.
Chwialkowski was named the 2024-25 Gatorade North Dakota Volleyball Player of the Year, becoming the award's recipient for the second consecutive year.
