COLLEGE PARK, MD – The University of Maryland Department of Athletics and our proud partner, Northrop Realty, plan to honor the 25th Anniversary of the 2002 National Championship Team throughout the 2026-27 men's basketball season.
Be part of the tradition all season long. Maryland men's basketball season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at umterps.com/JoinTheTradition or by calling 301-314-7060 to speak with an account representative. Fans should also mark their calendars for Oct. 2 as single-game tickets and mini-packs will officially go on sale to Terrapin Club donors and on Oct. 7 to the general public.
The 2002 national championship team will return to College Park and be recognized during the February 13 game against Indiana, the opponent the Terps defeated to win the title. The first 12,000 fans will receive commemorative national championship anniversary hats inspired by those presented to the 2002 team, and fans can participate in a Fan Fest, with more details to follow.
The January 16 game against Illinois will be another special promotional date featuring an exclusive Hall of Fame coach Gary Williams bobblehead giveaway. The first 10,000 fans will receive the bobblehead; every season ticket account will also be guaranteed a bobblehead. This game will also coincide with the annual men's basketball alumni weekend with many former players returning to College Park.
The year-long celebration will begin on November 2 against Bucknell, the season-opener, with a Turn Back the Clock Night featuring select discounted concessions items and throwback elements during the game.
All home games at XFINITY Center will feature special themes and nods to the 2002 championship squad including a commemorative series of cups sold at all concession stands. A portion of all proceeds from the commemorative cups will go to a newly established 2002 Men's Basketball National Championship Endowment that provides funds to continue to elevate the men's basketball program. Additionally, all season ticket members who have held tickets since the 2001-02 season will be honored at a game this season.
The Terps will play in a pair of exhibition games prior to the official start of the 2026-27 season. On Sunday, October 11, Maryland will face former ACC foe Georgia Tech (4:30 PM) at UMBC's Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena. The next Sunday, October 18, the Terps will host West Virginia at XFINITY Center.
The non-conference schedule is highlighted by games against regional rivals Georgetown (Sat., Nov. 7) and Virginia (Fri., Nov. 13), games against Tennessee and either Iowa State or San Diego State in the Las Vegas Players Era Championship Tournament during the Thanksgiving Week, and South Carolina in Baltimore on Saturday, Dec. 19 at CFG Bank Arena.
All games will be broadcast on the Maryland Sports Radio Network with legendary Voice of the Terps Johnny Holliday, Chris Knoche, and Walt Williams calling the action.
Tip times, television assignment, and game promotions will be announced in the near future. Additional season-long themes, color rush, and game promotions will also be announced soon.
