On Goins: Listed by many recruiting websites as the top "sleeper" prospect out of the Chicago metro area... has good size at 6-foot-10, 250 pounds, but can step out and shoot... began to realize his potential during his senior season in high school.
As a Freshman (2008-09): Did not dress vs. Bryant (12/27) with lower leg pain... Scored 4 points and had 4 boards in 7 minutes in exhibition win over Northwood (11/8)... First collegiate point came on a free throw late vs. Bucknell (11/14) in season-opener... Had a defensive board and went 1-for-2 FT in 2 minutes... Had a defensive board late in game vs. #9 Gonzaga (11/28)... Made ACC debut at Duke (1/24) with 2 rebounds, block and 1-for-2 FT in 3 minutes.
At Curie Metropolitan: Ranked the No. 27 center in the nation by Scout.com after blossoming as a senior... rated a three-star prospect by the recruiting web site... averaged 14 points, 11.5 rebounds and four blocks as a senior on a team that had balanced scoring... had two games in which he was a block shy of posting a triple-double... tabbed as a "late bloomer" and a "sleeper" by coaches in the Chicago metropolitan area, blossomed after transferring from Leo HS to Curie... good low-block scorer, but can also be a spot-up shooter... chose Maryland over South Florida ... high school coach Mike Oliver says his best basketball is ahead of him".
