NC State Defeats Maryland, 4-0
April 9, 2000
COLLEGE PARK, Md.-- The University of Maryland men's tennis team played only four matches in today's loss to NC State, 4-0. High winds and cold temperatures caused the team to play indoors, however due to a scheduling conflict, the match was delayed four hours.
The Terps played well in the three doubles matches to begin the day. The freshman duo of Peter Harjes (Woodbury, N.Y.) and Chris Chiu (Columbia, Md.) suffered a tough loss to Keith Salmon and Shaun Thomas, 8-3. Juniors Luan Nguyen (Tumun, Guam) and Larry Chou (Rockville, Md.) played a hard-fought match at the No. 2 spot but lost to Brad Kilgore and Brian Cowman by a score of 8-6. Additionally, junior Dan Kenshalo (Gaithersburg, Md.) and sophomore Jon Murchison (Orchard Park, N.Y.) played well at the No. 3 spot, despite losing 8-4.
The Terps only played three singles matches due to the late start. Chou lost to Salmon by a score of 6-0. 6-1. Chiu continued to play well at the No. 2 spot, but lost to Jeff Smith, 6-4, 6-4. At the No. 3 spot, Murchison was defeated by Ryan Boward, 6-2, 6-3.
The Terps (2-9, 0-6 ACC) are in action again on Tuesday, April 11, when they host Coppin State. The Terps have not faced a non-conference opponent in three weeks. The match will begin at 2:30 p.m. and will be played on the Cole Field House Tennis Courts.
