April 9, 2003
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland men's tennis team looks to end its recent five game losing streak, Wednesday, April 9, at 2:30 p.m., against Mount St. Mary's, at the Tennis Center at College Park. The Terps last six out of seven matches have been against ACC conference opponents, five of whom are nationally ranked.
Last season the Terps ended their ten-year ACC win drought with a 4-3 defeat of NC State at the Tennis Center at College Park. Last time out, head coach Jim Laitta and his Terps failed to notch their first ACC win of the 2003 season over NC State. On Sunday April 6, the Terps traveled to NC State, falling 5-2, to the Wolfpack.
Coming through for the Terps against the Pack was senior co-captain Chris Chiu (Columbia, Md.) and sophomore standout, David Reichsfeld (Santa Cruz, Bolivia). Chiu's 7-6, 6-4 defeat of Will Shaw came as his first conference win of his career as a Terp. Reichsfeld recorded his first ACC win of the 2003 season, against Rehman Esmail, pushing his career ACC wins to four, with the 7-5, 7-6 win.
This season, the Terps are at .500 with a 9-9 record. The Terps have struggled in the ACC, compiling a 0-6 record in conference action. Play at the Tennis Center at College Park will begin at 2:30 p.m.
